I know how passionate Spurs fans are. But we are HUGE Dallas Mavericks fans. We grew up in the Dallas area and have followed them even through our moves to New Orleans and Houston. It looks like we'll be moving to SA next summer and hubby and I would like to wear our Mavs shirts out and about and wear our jerseys while attending Spurs/Mavs games. Is this not a good idea since there is a rivalry between the two teams?

I know, silly question but while checking the threads this evening about information on SA, the Spurs kept coming up. I understand, they are the only major sporting team here and they have won championships (something we can't say!) I'm sure I'll be harassed some and I expect a little. But is it just a better idea to be a closet Maverick fan while living in SA?

Thanks!~

You'll be fine. Occasional harassment, but nothing to worry about.

It'd be different if y'all could beat us

Being from Boston, I've always found it odd how people here LOVE LOVE LOVE the Cowboys, but hate the Mavs. Pick a city! Stick with it already!

Seriously you'll be fine. It's not like you're a Yankees fan in Boston. The rivalry between the Mavs ans Spurs is not intense at all.

exactly what kevcrawford posted. We'll tease you about never winning a title, but that's about it. Just don't talk smack about our riverwalk! We might feel threatened if you were from LA.

I pity that fool!

Seriously, you will be fine. We go to Spurs games with some of us wearing Celtics, some wearing Spurs.

Yes, the best will always be hated or envied. I never hide my colors and yes its always purple and gold.
I always stay away from threads like this because it stirrs up the pot, but that's not why I'm here, my point here is to never hide your true colors no matter where you go always represent.

I lived in Dallas as a Spurs fan during the '07 win. You'll be fine here. I also wear my USC sweatshirt all the time. You might get a few glances by people you don't know (thinking "Oh god what are they thinking?" and your SA friends may give you some crap, but otherwise, like everyone else has said you'll be good.

Folks here don't seem to have much interest in the Stars or Rangers, either.
