No, I agree totally!

No need to apologize, something should be done to prevent bodily injury.

No matter what, today's teenagers should never be underestimated.
It's not "protecting the sheep". I've watched dumb***** egg on others until they finally had enough an' handed 'em their needings....and didn't do a thing. I'm talking about where a kid is bein' jumped on unfairly (has been trying to walk away or otherwise deescalate a given situation), or outnumbered. I'm "old school", in that I sincerely believe the fighting amongst young males is actually normal, and part of establishing societal pecking orders - but only to a point.

A coupla mutual combatants wailin' away at each other....let 'em. An oversized or multiple punks jumpin' on a single defendant....I'm gonna strongly consider weighin' in. All too often, by the time the PD gets there, the real damage has already been done - both physically and emotionally. And too often nowadays, most "men" are too danged self-engrossed to be bothered to consider what SHOULD be done - so enlisting help could well take too long.

Underestimate 'em? No....not hardly. Havin' worked behind a badge for a number of years, I learned many "tricks of the trade" as it were - including sizing up a potential opponent. And, as my (now-adult) boys can tell ya...I do NOT "fight fair".

My experience has been that 99% of the time, the mere introduction of an adult into an adolescent altercation will break things up - and a bit of humor can get things calmed down pretty quickly - it's all a case-by-case basis, and requires judgement and a quick mind, but it CAN be done.
