I'm out in Schertz on my way to work as usual. Stop at Schertz Bank just off I-35 to do my business.

I'm at the bank ATM when I see the police car in the parking lot with someone they pulled over... no big deal I go
about my business.

Walk back to my car... the police have my vehicle blocked in such that I cannot get out but the vehicle of the fellow
they nabbed is free to move.

I sit and wait a good 10 minutes before the business is finished and the police car is finally moved so I can be
on my way.

I've been in San Antonio for a year now and driving that entire time... never been pulled over or ticketed.

I have a lot of respect for police officers, the work they do and the danger they place themselves in daily.

You'd think this particular officer would have had some respect for others at this time of the morning when people
are on their way to work and not block someone in who is not party to the situation.

There was plenty of other place to park... such as immediately behind the vehicle being ticketed.

Maybe it's a Schertz thing? One of the TV stations had a story last week about how the Schertz EMS blocked a woman's vehicle in its parking space at a store while she was shopping. This woman called 911 to ask that it be moved so she could get to her daughter's birthday party. The operator practically laughed at her request, insisting she would have to wait until they were finished with the EMS run.

Perhaps it is... I stayed put in my vehicle rather than ask the officer to move so I could get out.

Who knows... he might have been cranky and suggested that I was interfering with police business

Here's my opinion: in the case of the police officer, he/she was finishing up paperwork and there is zero reason they shouldn't have pulled into/backed into an empty spot and let INNOCENT citizens who had nothing to do with anything go on with their lives. ZERO excuse. He/she's just full of himself and thinks that everyone should wait for him to do whatever he/she wants. PATHETIC!

In the case of EMS, I believe that they shouldn't be asked to move, nor do you have any expectation of moving. They are there to potentially save a human life. A HUMAN LIFE. Being late to a birthday party or a meeting or whatever versus.....a human life. There's simply no question.

That being said, EMS usually parks as close as possible to the entrance of wherever they need to get. This is a situation well avoided by taking a little extra time to walk to your destination by parking a bit farther away and in the open. You'll get a little more exercise, as well....possibly delaying your own meeting with an EMS ambulance, a situation where I believe you'd hope they'll park as close to you as possible; who cares about the people they block, right?

Here we go again...

I'm sorry you had to wait ten minutes while the police officer was doing his job, but that is a minor inconvenience and if you truly had a situation where you had to leave I am sure the officer would have accommodated.

But I am sure you understand that the officer was focused on the execution of his duties and may not have realized that he was delaying you. Or he felt that what he was doing was important enough to warrant keeping his vehicle where it was.

But I guess some feel that only EMS save lives, and not police officers!

A police officer pulling someone over isn't necessarily saving a life. Some drivers know how to drive at ANY speed capably without running out of control and putting others in grave danger.

And some drivers can go out of control on the speed limit. Variety's the spice of life.

Respect is earned, not mandatory. From my experience with cops here, not a damn one of them earned one bit. But all I do is complain and I don't know anything about anything, so feel free to ignore this and just move along.

that is just in poor taste.
??? I don't think Paul56 is badmouthing them....certainly nowhere near as much as *I* badmouth them!

He's just querying why it was so impossible to finish the paperwork in a spot where one is not blocking someone else?

Like I said, though, this is a situation best avoided by picking choice parking spots. Or not being in a hurry, like today for me. I have 3 days off and I'm going to take my sweet time with errands today, especially with the weather being the way it is.

Not everyone has that privilege: some people need to be in a hurry. Hopefully they will do it safely.

Think about this: by blocking an innocent citizen, the police officer is just making him be in an even BIGGER hurry. Is that the smart thing to do?
