My phone service provider is AT&T. In addition to my basic monthly fee, I pay extra for a feature called "Caller ID Anonymous Call Reject".
If I'm at my desk and a call comes in, I glance at my caller ID before I answer.
Some calls come through showing just a phone number with no name, which is fine since there is still a number.
However, I've had a few calls come in that appear on the Caller ID as "Caller Unknown" as well as "Number Unknown".
No name or phone number!
It seems to me that is "Anonymous" because I have no way of knowing either the Name or the Phone number.
I called AT&T to question this and was told "No Name and No Number" is not Annonymous.

How is it possible for a person to call me and not have their name or phone number show up on my caller ID?

.

I'm thinking,..if the caller to you has his/her number and name unpublished,..your caller ID is telling you that the caller is "unknown" cause of the "unpublished" listing.

No, because when my number was unpublished, the number and my name would show up in caller ID displays. Also, some of my regular callers have unlisted/unpublished numbers, but they still display in my caller ID.

If you want,...call some of your friends and ask them if their # is unpublished,..if so,..have them call that caller id and see what it dispalys,...

I have received calls where the ID will say... "unlisted call" but this says "Unknown" for both Name and Number.

So, what is the OP getting for the extra fee s/he is paying? It sounds like it needs to be dropped from the bill.

most payphones wont show up anymore. *67 is anonymous calling. the service the OP is paying for SHOULD automatically reject these calls.

the 'unknown caller' with 'unknown number' is an ANI spoof.
