Any folks on here have suggestions for a few gun shops that offer LEO discounts? I know Dury's does for Glocks, but I'm not terribly excited about a Glock. Looking to purchase one this weekend or next.

Thanks

I believe Barkley's just south of Boerne on IH-10 west does/did...

Wheeler - 32450 Interstate 10 W, Boerne - (830) 249-2656

For some reason when you click on that URL it comes up as Wheelers. I haven't been up there in a few weeks, did the shop change ownership?

Otherwise, you might try asking this question on Texas Gun Talk. The only other place that I can recall is GT Distributors up in Austin.

Cheers! M2

IIRC, Powderhorn and Dury's do it as well, just not publicly.

Most any gun shop will offer a "discount" for everyone for some reason. As an LEO, what you are looking for is a gun shop that is authorized to sell LEO only guns for that brand. LEO guns are functionally the same as what everybody else sells...except they are sold cheaper because of an exemption from federal taxes on firearms.

A lot of people dont know it but there is an 80 year old tax on all guns sold.

A little on that
NRA-ILA :: Pittman-Robertson Act: Friend Of The Hunter & Hunted

If you go to a place like Dury's, which is the authorized LEO Glock dealer for this region, they can sell LEOs Glocks without this tax. That is the "LEO discount." that makes the guns Cops buy cheaper than other people can get them.

Dury's gives the same discount to commissioned security guards too.

I wasn't wild about the Glock until my husband bought one. It actually feels pretty solid, you can find any accessory or holster you need just about anywhere, and it's not so pretty that you feel bad about scratching it up. It can take a beating too...one day my husband fell out of the back of the truck and landed on his Glock...he had a huge holster-shaped bruise for weeks, but we took the gun to the range the next day and it fired perfectly.

The deal from Dury's comes with three magazines, too.

I did not know this (the three magazine info). Thanks. Is NICS instant here in Texas? I haven't purchased a handgun here yet, but I know that even in Massachusetts, with NICS, they still have a 3 day waiting period.

Edit - I know that NICS can take up to three days to respond (or they have up to 3 days) so I understand the waiting period.

NICS is usually fast in TX (but is it a federal issue). But if you have a CHL, no NICS. How this applies to LEO purchases, I have no idea.

The things I've bought the last couple of years, it's taken about 30 minutes for the paperwork.

You're better off just waiting until the next Saxet Gun Show. You can probably find anything there cheaper than what you would get at a gun shop even with a discount.

Just for example: I bought an xDM .40 at the gun show for $499, brand new. Saw it at Bass Pro for $679 and USED at Dury's for about $600.

You can find good deals at the gun shows if you can wait, but you also have to look (and barter a little ). The next SAXET show is 5-6 November at the SA Event Center (410 & Marbach)

As for NICS, once you fill out the AFT Form 4473 it usually takes about 10-15 minutes for them to call it in. Of course, when you get a TX CHL you don't have to go through the NICS check!

Cheers! M2
