Currently, what are considered the best private schools in town for elementary and middle school? I am more interested in secular schools than religious.

Not to be rude, but those institutions are non-secular.

It depends on what you're looking for. Some are far better academically, some have better arts programs. Having taught at Saint Mary's Hall for 11 years (algebra to calculus) and been their registrar too, I can tell you that it's non-denominational. There's not a great deal of non-secular activity. The administration is definitely more religious/conservative than when I was there, but that doesn't filter down to the classroom or school activities. The teachers are fantastic and dedicated, and they know their subjects. Academically SMH is far above other schools, public and private, and their fine arts department is top notch.

I've always heard great things about Keystone as well, it may even be better than SMH academically. I have friends who teach there and really enjoy it.

You should definitely include both schools on your list of places to check out. The park-like SMH campus and facilities are definitely worth a detour.

Oh that's right, the kids who went to SMH after St. George were always very well prepared indeed, bright, polite, disciplined, always ready to work.

I taught many many boys who went on to SMH from the Academy. They were great Lacrosse players.

We have a couple of friends whose kids attend Keystone. Excellent school - for such a small school to have (for this year) 5 National Merit Semifinalists and 17 National Merit Commended Students is amazing.

I have also heard excellent things about SMH and SA Academy.

Other than Keystone (co-ed K - 12) and San Antonio Academy (Boys only K-8), all non public schools in San Antonio are religious. Coming from MA, I found that hard to believe in the nation's seventh largest city, but it's true.
