Woke up yesterday morning in Billings, MT. -5 degrees and snow falling. Kept removing layers as my flight got me back to South Texas. Might be a nice place to visit in summer, not sure I even want to risk that.

Been to Kalispel during the Spring, it's amazing. I heard they were closing that airport in town due to noise. Billings is interesting, it's right next to Yellowstone, no? Almost attended college in Bozeman. Beautiful beautiful area.

I went to Jackson Hole, WY in the winter and snowmobiled in Yellowstone when it was around -20 F or so. That was serious cold, but felt good at the time with my extra couple hundred pounds of insulation. I would probably die there today.. it's beautiful, though. If I could afford it, I'd most likely live there, but there's a reason why they call every view a million dollar view..

I don't know if this affects anyone else but I'm really sad that Etta James has passed. She was the vocalist behind 'At Last." I didn't know her personally but I really enjoy her work. Her voice, the infliction, the feeling she put in it. She was definitely one of my favorite artists. I'm often considered the odd ball for my musical preferences but when you have a vocalist like this, very few now-a-days can measure up. I'm often told I was born in the wrong era.

Fair winds and following seas, Ms. James.

One of my favorite songs by her:

Etta James - Fool That I Am (with lyrics) - YouTube

Had a conversation with some work folks today. They mentioned they quit watching the local news lately because it seems like the crime has become really bad. I stopped to think about it and to me it has seemed bad lately. Shootings, stabbings, fights, home invasions where the burglar was killed (I do not care about that one though. He deserved it), retaliation on the homeowner for the shooting, etc. Or am I just imagining things again? At least it is Friday.

Just checked out the weather for my brother's house in Michigan and it's 1 F, as in just one tiny little degree above zero. Had to send him an email letting him know that we're supposed to be suffering around 80 or so today..
so Yes! I'm actually happy to be here today.
Dangit!. Don't be telling everyone how great the weather is here....they'll be moving down here in droves!

Well, it ended up sucking with that fog. I was so looking forward to a nice ride home in some record breaking (78 is today's) warmth. Instead I got a cloudy and cool ride with wet gloves from the morning. Can't believe I didn't think to bring that stuff into the office.. Duh

I hate insomnia.

I get bouts of it occasionally and it throws off my sleeping pattern for a good 2 months or so. Normally it would be okay because I could work on work projects and whatnot but I'm not on any right now so I'm wide awake. Granted it's only 0130 and that's considered normal but I've been up nearly 30 hours. Stuff's starting to get old.

I have the dead opposite problem. 8 or 9 PM starts rolling around and my eyelids are VERY heavy.. usually takes a couple of efforts to get me up out of the recliner and into the bed, but that's much better than tossing and turning.
