Nice! I'll have to do some research on that organization.

Our school does not permit candy in lunches. Hot dogs (and I know they are "evil", but the kids like them once every couple of weeks) are generally frowned upon but still accepted. Our kids think cold veggies rule, and we are thankful for that.

Fried then frozen then warmed up in the oven doesnt really count as "cooked in the oven".

Default Northside Lunch

My kids attend a school in Northside, they refuse to eat the lunch in the cafeteria. My daughter has found hair in her salad several times, a small bug and green "stuff" in her chicken sandwich. Both of my kids have thrown up from eating a hot lunch at school. I now make them a healthy lunch everyday to bring to school. Most of my kid's friends buy hot lunch, not mine-they refuse, they do not care what the "other" kids are doing. Go and have lunch with your child. Buy from the cafeteria the food is horrible. Hopefully someday it will get better???

Funny you mention that they have gotten sick. Mine got sick at exactly the same times every month. It would last for a day and be gone the next. Had been going on since the first month of last school year. We finally started sending her with a home made lunch every other Tuesday (since it coincided with the times she got sick) and it immediately stopped. Nowadays she decides of she wants to take or buy her lunch but that every other Tuesday she HAS to take it.

Just an FYI pink slime is also found in 70 percent of meat sold in grocery stores. ABC news just did a report on it which is in those links above. Schools skirt around nutritional guidelines all the time. But if you have kids on free/reduced lunch you probably do not know what pink slime is, or you do not care what it is. Yet another reason I do not eat meat. Time to wake up America.

In one of the articles it was saying that schools shouldnt be serving red meat. From earlier posts however I thought everyone was concerned that it was added in chicken tenders... Is it both? Just curious.
