Check out 3 Dental Plans to Choose From - Dental Insurance - Quickest Benefits - Insured as Soon as Tomorrow - DentalQUICK. They have a waiting period on all major work so if you are in pain it will be 6 months before major coverage kicks in but they do cover preventive and fillings right away I believe.

Thanks JAustinDDS.
I've decided to just pay out of pocket for my twice a year routine cleaning/exams ... and put the money I'd spend on Insurance premiums in a special account for emergencies.

SafeGuard/MetLife. I pay roughly $12/mo and it does save me money, especially with this dental implant I've just finished stage 1 of getting.

Is that a plan where you have to choose an HMO dentist?
Or can you pick anyone you want?

If possible, stay away from plans that utilize ONLY the chain dental offices. They have very, very few appointments set aside for certain types of plans.

If you have healthy teeth, I would definitely do the "set aside money for 2 annual cleanings" route. However, if you have the chance the purchase reasonable (e.g., group) dental, then do so. I pay $74 per month for family coverage...it has paid for itself many times over. I, too, was a never needed a filling type until a few years ago. This year, I needed two crowns. That would have been major $$$. Plus, I am married to Mr. Bad Teeth. He's a dentist's dream!
