Okay....gotta ask - HOW in the blazes does a jury convict a guy on DUI charges in an incident that results in the DEATH of a poor guy who's only "crime" is driving down the road....and then give the jerk probation?!??

I swear, I just don't get it - how in the WORLD can that possibly be a punishment that fits the crime?!?? There was another case where a guy shot someone, the victim lived - but HE got 35 YEARS IN PRISON.

Whoever served on that jury.....you are as guilty as the DUI driver in my eyes - and when he goes out and does it again, in my mind YOU should be right there with him to face the charges.

Now, that's in the paper today....and yet no one has said a word here. Are ya'll THAT accustomed to folks getting away with murder?!??

There are a lot of people in this town who don't think DUI is as serious as the District Attorney thinks it is. I'm not defending them, nor am I one of them. But when a bunch of them get on the same jury, that's how people get away with it.

sadly we're all accustomed to everything/everyone getting breaks .
it's cheaper .
ask a teacher, any teacher, how they are allowed to reprimand a student for any infraction .
once they're done laughing hysterically (also allow for the sobbing) you'll understand .

don't just teach your kids responsibility for all actions; show them .

Bo, I get that...had this been his first/second offense and he did property damage, I could even accept it.

But in the name of all that's Holy - he KILLED someone.....and walks?!?!??

My father always told me that when you get behind the wheel of a car, you are controlling a lethal weapon. If you treat it as such then you will be fine. I must admit there are times when I become complacent behind the wheel, but when I see people reading books, putting on makeup, eating cereal from a bowl, cutting 2 or 3 lanes to make an exit so they don't have to go a 1/2 mile to make a turn around, and of course drive drunk, I wonder how many other drivers were taught the same way I was taught. Honestly, I don't spend too much time wondering, my father also taught me to treat every other driver as if they were complete idiots who think the mirrors are for fixing your hair or checking your teeth and are unaware that turn signals and brakes are standard on all vehicles. His form of defensive driving has saved my life and the life of my family many times. (maybe this should be in the "I am driving around San Antonio when I see .... Thread)

I feel that if a driver becomes inpaired for any reason, those listed above are prime examples, and they get in an accident. They should be charged as if they were utilizing a lethal weapon to cause the accident. I do not know the specifics of the incident in question but if the jury thought the weapon was not a car but a gun or a knife, wonder how they would have decided, all other facts the same.

If you put it to a vote, this city would probably vote in favor of open containers.
