I've read various threads on having a swimming pool and sources for installation. Some state it's not worth the upkeep vs useage.I know this summer has produced alot of rain and that seems to have conflicted with owning one but for those that do own them(in ground),what would you estimate cost of upkeep and if you know, what the cost is for having someone come in and service it for you. Also on a normal basis, what months do you feel the pool would be used-thanks.

don't forget electricity costs, especially if you're crazy enough to heat it.. those pumps suck a lot of juice and definitely make an impact on your electric bill.. this cooler summer combined with my not having a pool anymore saved me about $600 over last year and for that I don't have to pay an electric bill for a couple months.

Usage wise you can get a good 5 months out of it here we are a couple of days before fall and I'm still using ours, if you have it heated(ours is heated by natural gas) then you can use it all year long. If you have children they will want to be in it all the time during the summer.

Here in the Dallas area I pay 125.00 a month to have the pool serviced I may just do it myself next year. As far as electricity usage I run the pump on a timer for about 8 hrs a day and the booster pump 3 hrs and my bill hasn't changed much from the previous years when I didn't use my booster pump and ran the other about 4 hrs daily. Then again maybe my electric is similar because I use my pumps more this year and the AC less and in previous years it was vice versa.

Anyways if you really use the pool then it's worth the money, if you don't then your wasting money.

We LOVE our pool, but yes, this year was far more a pain than enjoyment.

I think that NORMAL summers, a pool is a dream come true...especially if you homeschool (did I remember correctly), then even more so.

Our HOA here at Westcreek as 2 pool areas, but I LOVE being able to swim as early or late as I want to without regard to hours/closed days.
