Hey guys, do any of you know good spots where I can get some good shots in the hill country but not limited to a specific destination or area. I want to take pics of abandoned barns, small creeks, beautiful bridges, beautiful nature scenery, and of the like so that I can share my journey through a blog. It's a hobby of mine to take pictures and I finally have a mini vacation coming up and I have been wanting to find some interesting places where I can take pictures with my Olympus dslr which has been begging me to take it out. Any good leads would be awesome. P.S. I am not sure what I did to my compact flash memory card but if any of you have any used compact flash cards laying around that you don't need and/or would like to donate one to me let me know. I just don't want to go buy another expensive memory card as these things are awfully pricey.

Lost Maples State Park is good in the, the best time though is in the fall. You can also try Pedernales Falls SP and Balcones Canyonlands.

Lost Maples sounds reasonable. Thanks for those great suggestions. I never heard of those before. Thanks.

If you can stand the hiking and the heat, Hill Country State Natural Area is very rural and natural. You'll have vistas uninterrupted by modern progress, much the same as they were a century ago. Also, HCSNA was a network of working ranches prior to the state's aquisition, so there is a scattering of old walls, barns, fences, and old houses and shelters. I spent a day there years ago just taking a black and white series of photos and enjoyed the project.
Further west, Big Bend National Park or Big Bend Ranch State Park each offer days worth of exploring and photograph opportunities.
Or, how about a west Texas ghost town roadtrip?
Took my new-to-me dslr on the road a few years ago for this trip:

My first though was to stop in all the small little towns on I10 West going towards Kerrville. (Boerne, Welfare, Comfort, etc).

Then I remembered someone once saying that the area on a highway going west out of San Marcos was pretty scenic. But I've never been through that way myself.

Perhaps you mean Devil's Backbone? It is a very nice drive west of San Marcos...

Cheers! M2
