What are some Fun AND Free activities you partake in near where you live (San Antonio/Schertz/Fredericksburg, etc.) Anything goes, except let's exclude Fiesta events.

I live near Medina Lake so boating is always a fun past time for us. There is also swimming in the river and nearby creeks.
We have a softball field on our ranch and we sometimes have games with kids against parents and yes the kids usually win but I think that is because the parents drink a beer between every out

hmmmm.... there really isn't a lot of things that I can think of that are FREE.
This weekend is Trade Days in Fredericksburg if you are into that sort of thing. There is New Braunfels and Gruene where you can walk around and check out the sites.

Good post, it will be interesting to see what people do.

Visit some trails! Fun, free, and good for you.

If you're looking for bigger areas with lots of trails in the immediate area, my favorite places to visit are Friedrich Park, Eisenhower Park, and Crownridge Canyon Natural Area. See San Antonio Natural Areas for more info.

If you're looking for a smaller park with just some quick trails to walk along, I like O.P. Schnabel, Bamberger Nature Park, and Comanche. Brackenridge is another great place to explore that gets a category of its own.

To get this thread back on track, there are tons of great things to do in and around San Antonio that don't necessarily have to cost money. The Missions are a great example, have you visited all of them? Plus, as mentioned, there are a lot of great city parks to hike and bike in; and there is Government Canyon, the largest natural area in Texas, just outside of 1604 near Helotes.

But to honestly have fun it does require paying for it, and I am not talking about some of the previous discussions! One of the things we love most about this town is that there is an almost endless list of things to do around here. Museums, the zoo, the Botanical Gardens, the Hill Country, lots of small towns close by. A great source of what's going on is About.com's San Antonio page. Kori Ellis has a newsletter you can subscribe to, loads of great info.

To be honest, if you are bored in San Antonio, it is not the town's fault!

Cheers! M2

I used to run the weekly "fun runs" around town - stopped paying the fee for t-shirts, just enjoyed the run - especially the Alamo City run - what a great chance to run through the downtown area with all the streets blocked.

As soon as the Bluebonnets are in bloom you should try Willow City Loop.
