I am planning a road trip, and will be traveling through San Antonio. I will be traveling on I-10 west bound and most likely will be stopping over night in this area.

I was wondering what are the safest hotels or safest areas too look for a hotel.

OR which areas I should AVOID!!!

Thanks for the help!!!

Most anything north of 410 on or near I-10 west of say ...Wurzbach/Huebner should be good! I'd avoid downtown area except the larger Hotels. North of 10 on I-37 just north of the Alamodome there are maybe some slightly less safe Motels/Hotels.

Anything on I-10 northwest of town from Wurzbach/Huebner Road out to Boerne will be safe. Consider the Colonnade area (east side of I-10 between Wurzbach and Huebner) or the Rim (I-10 at La Cantera Parkway) for areas where you are very close to numerous restaurants. There are also numerous limited service hotels around DeZavala Road and UTSA Blvd that are close to many restaurant options as well. Safe travels!

Agree with the above recommendations. Your biggest risk staying in a hotel on 410 is a property crime. Smash and grab thefts from unattended vehicles are common there. About once or twice a year, there is a story on the news of some tourist getting their trailer stolen from their vehicle while parked at a hotel on 410.

My thoughts as well.

Very safe! You are NW of downtown, and very near some nice residential areas.

Just remember nicer areas might be just as prone or more so to auto thefts and property thefts. The hoodlums go where the gettin' is good. Having said that you'd certainly feel safer in these areas than you would on SA's east side. With the traffic nightmares to the NW you may never notice.

Extremely safe. This is in the midst of some of the highest incomes in the city. However, as others have pointed out, I would not leave anything semi-valuable or truly valuable out in plain sight in your vehicle as any hotel can be the victim of quick smash and grabs.

If you want some good (not the best, but I still enjoy it very much) BBQ, the original Rudy's (now a chain) is very close to this hotel. If you want a burger, try the Longhorn Cafe.

Just note that if you're not used to driving in Texas with access roads, the area around this hotel is somewhat confusing to people new to the area. Unlike in San Antonio where the access roads are one way, they are two way in this area. Traffic on the access road is expected to yield (read, STOP!) if cars are exiting off the mainlanes of the highway. If you are exiting the highway and see a car coming at you on the access road, they should stop for you. Make sure you don't stop when exiting the highway or you will potentially get rear ended.

Safe travels!
