In less than a month my husband will be relocating from overseas to Randolph AFB. I need as much info as possible on neighborhoods, school districts, crime rates, and family life in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. We have 2 middle schoolers and education is very important to us as well as activities for them.
We've heard that the traffic is horrible and would like to stay in a less congested area. I think my husband would appreciate no more than a 30 minute commute to base. We plan on visiting in a couple of weeks to look around but I wanted to get a head start on pricing different areas. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated to help make this a smooth transition.

You have it easy being stationed at Randolph look into Schertz or Cibolo; right outside of base, lower taxes, large new homes, and excellent school district.

Thanks. I've been looking into Schertz and Cibolo and am pleased with the area. I'm surprised at how inexpensive the homes are. I might be looking forward to this move after all.

House Hunters on HGTV was on last night, and the young girl was buying a house that her mom would live in as well. They looked at 3 houses obviously. One in Alamo Heights, one in Cibolo, and it looks like one in Stone Oak, but they didn't specify. She was working at Fort Sam Houston. I think she chose the house in the Stone Oak area. She is in for a hurting.

Stone Oak has a lot of heaters here. There has been some ugly road construction but once done the traffic will improve. It's just a master planned neighborhood on the outskirts of North Central San Antonio. Great schools, good shopping;, churches, etc...and about 20,000 people - a vast majority of who are happy out here. I have opinions of areas some people love but oddly I am able to keep them to myself and give basic info to let newcomers make their own decision...ALOT of military stationed at all 3 bases choose to live here so there must be some redeeming qualities

We came from overseas last March and ended up buying in Stone Oak and have been happy. My husband commutes to Ft. Sam Houston. The commute from Stone Oak to Randolph would be fine. A big deciding factor for us was schools. Please PM me if there are specific questions you have concerning Stone Oak or anything else.
