I have just recently switched from cable to no cable using just the antennae. I am struggling to get KSAT (12.1) and would love to get it. I asked a co-worker who said that she also has this problem. For those of you that are able to get the channel is there a specific trick to getting it? I am using a GE indoor antennae from Target, nothing fancy.

Thanks y'all!

I either get choppy picture or an ok picture depending on where I place my antenna. I'm in the 78251 zip. Try placing your antenna everywhere.

KSAT and KLRN are on VHF. Your antenna needs to be capable of receiving VHF signals to receive them. If it's a standard set-top antenna, that means it needs to have rabbit ears and they may need to be extended.

WOAI, KENS and KABB and all of the others in town are on UHF. If you're getting them, that means your antenna is a UHF antenna. A standard set-top antenna for UHF looks like a loop, probably a little bigger than the size of your hand with all of the fingers spread apart.

You need a better antenna to get all the channels. This is the one I use: Amazon.com: Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor Antenna: Electronics It's a little unsightly but I just hide it behind a fake plant. It gets the job done...I live at the very edge of town but I get every channel that we're supposed to be able to get over the air. You don't have to move this antenna to get different channels either.

But does it get KCWX (Channels 2.1 & 2.2)?

KCWX is a low-band VHF channel that's tough to pull in even with a rooftop antenna in San Antonio.

I'm curious, do the Spanish speaking channels work over the air?

Yes, there are about six or eight Spanish-language channels (including sub-channels) in the San Antonio market you can get free with an antenna.

Yes. My neighbor says her novelas look better on my TV with the antenna than they do on her TV with the Dish.

As far as channel 2.1 and 2.2, I don't think we get those. I mostly care about getting 4, 5, 9, 12, 29 and 35.

Dish and cable companies compress signals. They actually throw out data that's part of the TV picture in order to save bandwidth. It may be the same size picture, but because of that compression, it won't be as crisp. The over the air signals we can receive on an antenna are about as uncompressed as can be. If your reception is good, the picture you see uses every single bit of the information the TV station sends out to produce a picture.

IOW, your neighbor is absolutely correct in her observation.
