We are from Dallas and visiting San Antonio on 4th July long weekend and was wondering about where to go for the best fireworks for 4th July.

Any suggestions?

The official City of San Antonio July 4th celebration is at Woodlawn Lake Park. This is an all-day event with a parade, entertainment, kids games, costume contests, etc. Admission is free...the fireworks start at 9:30pm.

There is another city event called "Stars and Stripes Over San Antonio," based at the Alamodome. $2.00 admission, plus parking. But the fireworks should be visible from anywhere downtown or with a view of downtown. (For some reason, there will not be fireworks at the Tower of the Americas this year - that's a shame, as it's usually a quite spectacular sight.)

Ft. Sam Houston hosts a celebration with a military flair - there's also music and fireworks...admission is free.

Most of the small towns in and around San Antonio put on their own fireworks shows - Leon Valley, Boerne, New Braunfels, Schertz, Kirby, etc.

And Sea World and Fiesta Texas also have big fireworks shows, included with the (hefty) admission price (and the parking is expensive.) BUT you can watch the Fiesta Texas show for free from the parking lot at the Shops of La Cantera... Sea World's show can also be viewed for free from some nearby vantage points.

I'm sure I missed a few...someone will chime in soon. Hope you have a great time!

Awesome! I missed to state that we are planning for Sea World visit either on 3rd or 4th. Do you think Sea World's fireworks show is better than the rest in town? If so, we may visit the park on 4th so we can wait for the fireworks show.

SeaWorld usually has a great fireworks display for the 4th over the lake. Its very pretty and its also a safe environment.

The BEST display I've seen (and I've seen them all) is the one at Medina Lake in Elm Cove. Spectacular!!!

Hard to say whose show is going to be better...things can vary from year to year depending on many factors.

But Sea World is pretty dependable for a very good, professionally-spectacular show, although it's a little short (maybe about 15 minutes.) It's one of their most popular events. And they're apparently having fireworks on both Friday and Saturday nights, July 3rd and 4th.

Do you think you can see the fireworks at the Alamodome or Woodlawn Lake from the Riverwalk?

There are no downtown fireworks this year. Stars and Stripes Over San Antonio has been cancelled due to downtown construction.

Woodlawn Lake is a giant hot (very little shade) mess. I recommend you avoid it.
