My husband and I are flying into San Antonio next week to hopefully secure a house rental. Our girls want to go to Johnson School District so we will be looking at the Stone Oak/Encino area (preferably the Encino side.) Our budget is $1300-1550.

I have been looking on Trulia and don't see too many options and not many new ones becoming available. Is there anywhere else we can look? I've looked up a couple of property management companies but they seem to have the same ones.

Thanks so much! Hoping to find a cute place in a safe neighborhood in a short amount of time!

I would start with realtor.com and search via zip code.

Zip for Encino side is 78259. A few 78258 areas on SO side got to Johnson but if I remember correctly only a few very expensive neighborhoods. Good luck!

There are quite a few rentals in Bulverde Village (off of Bulverde Green Rd. zip 78261). However, I don't know of one source to find them. i'm sure a realtor could help.

I'm assuming you mean the Northeast ISD???

Yes, the Northeast ISD - but more specifically, within the boundaries for Lady Bird Johnson High School.

I don't believe you will find rentals on the Stone Oak side in that price range. Big Springs is in Stone Oak and feeds to Johnson but rental rates there are in the $2000 + range. Good luck to you.

I think you need to rethink either your budget or the school.

That was what I wrote to the OP in a PM...we are getting $1600+ over in our farwest-side county neighborhood.

You can most definitely find a rental within walking distance to Johnson if you look in Bulverde Village... although the bus does go there because of the lack of sidewalks on Bulverde Road. Bulverde Village has 4 distinct neighborhoods - The Point (Wilshire, Pulte, and Gehan homes) and Blackhawk, Creekhaven & Stratford are Centex homes. There are some in that price range in The Point and probably more in the other 3 neighborhoods. All are decent (they share the walking trails, park, volleyball court and bb court) but only the Point has access to the pool, so look there if a pool is important to you. If you have any questions about the area or Johnson HS please feel free to PM me

Edit: I meant to say that BV should have homes in that price range - a friend of mine just bought a new house (smallish, sure but cute) for around that price per month (or less, actually). Just depends on the neighborhood. And as far as safe, yes, it's a safe neighborhood. There is your standard car break-ins occassionally, but that happens in Cibolo Canyons which is right next door and gated, so it happens everywhere. Just park in your garage and you're fine. But as far as convenience to local shopping and dining, super close to Johnson HS, and in your price range, I would look there. Zip is 78261.
