Hi,
Yesterday evening I was looking out my sun room about to go outside when I noticed a swarm of shiny green and black bugs flying around my backyard. There were also alot of crows in the yard catching and eating the bugs (yay!). There was a certain spot in the mulch that they seemed to be coming from, but I wasn't able to get a closer look. I did ask my next door neighbor if he had a similar episode before but he said no. Does anyone know what kind of insect this was? A june bug? Something else? I'm a new homeowner so I want to know if there's anything I should do or just let nature take its course.

They are scarab beetles, probably looking for someplace to lay eggs. If you have ever dug up a huge grub worm, I think they are the larva for these beetles. Saw them this morning buzzing around while my dog was trying to catch them. Guess they were more tasty than her bowl of dog food this morning!

Here's a link to a photo from TAMU's website and some info on the bug.
