Hi all,

After living in SA for almost 1 year, i have finally decided to call it home and looking for a neighborhood that's a good fit for me. I am single, in my mid 30's, in the medical profession and looking to buy a property where there would be a lot of young single professionals. Urban living suits me fine, my ideal home would be walking distance to restaurants and Starbucks, parks and walking trails. Budget range in the mid 300K. Security is also big issue for me. Anyone know of townhome or condominium developments in downtown or medical center area? Thanks all in advance for your input!

Try the east Quincy townhomes or possibly casa Blanca lofts

Sent you a DM. I live at the Judson Candy Factory and there are currently two lofts for sale right now.

Recently there have been more "for rent" options built than "for sale" options, but a realtor that knows the downtown market can help you. (If you look on realtor.com for 78205, 78210, 78215) you can probably find some.

Your general areas are:
South Flores (South End Lofts, Judson Lofts, Camp Street Lofts)
Downtown (Alteza, Vidorra, Travis)
Pearl area (Casa Blanca now, Quincy coming soon)
Southtown (King William Townhomes, those small converted apartments near Mad Hatters, King William Lofts - maybe the latter is too pricey for your budget).

There are also some smaller projects that have popped up on South Presa, Cevallos, Tobin Hill (Ogden Modern), and earlier projects (Andalucia?) elsewhere that you might consider.

Since you mentioned Starbucks, there are also a couple of townhome/condo projects in Alamo Heights within walking distance to the Starbucks on Broadway & Central Market. Not as urban feeling, but a nice neighborhood.

.

St Benedict's in King William, Cevallos Lofts (Considered Southtown, more LoneStar area).
Mission Reach area: about a gazillion....

There are many. I'd start with a realtor who KNOWS the area well. Some realtors may have a property here and there in these areas, but they don't really know it well. You need someone who focuses on this area. I'll DM you some suggestions.

Thank you all for your replies, much appreciated. Would welcome suggestions for good realtors who know downtown area properties. How is the flood situation in those properties close to the SA river?

@ Chaka - I didn't include St. B's or Cevallos Lofts as they are rental and OP wanted to buy. Has that changed?

Unless you are down by Espada, I don't think you have any flood issues to worry about.

I'm interested in buying a property instead of renting. Also looking into houses in Alamo Hts area that i can remodel. I have looked into new houses in nice gated communities but they are all in the suburbs and mostly 3-4 bedroom houses that are too big for a single person to live in.

1 for sale in my building now. The loft next to me just sold in under 3 weeks.

Very safe building also.

Lots of rentals in the downtown area, but not a lot of condos/lofts to buy.

Alteza, the luxury condos that take up the top 10 floors of the 24-story Grand Hyatt hotel, announced this week that 80 percent of its units have been sold.

The community’s first residents moved in in 2010, according to Express-News archives. In all, there are 146 units in the Alteza, at 610 E. Market St., which means there are about 30 condos left

This project could not have opened at a worse time, but I'm glad they have the momentum now.
