Yikes! I saw a post somewhere that there are gators in SA??!! What about in the Boerne area? I have my horse boarded there, and I have a small dog that is with me. I had no idea- I thought they 'stopped' at the east side of Texas! After living in Sarasota Florida, where they are everywhere, I was hoping to never see one again! (I was working at a hospital there built on a 'swamp'- one night I had a drunk/druggie who decided he didn't want to be treated- took off gown, IV and all, before cops could get there- could not find him- K9 dogs scented to the water, shown a light on a gator rolling- probably was my patient- now a gator snack!) I will have to be more careful- they maybe don't like humans, but a little dog would be just an appetizer-UGH

Alligators here aren't very common although they do exist -- mainly south of town and east around Lake Mitchell. Whenever there are sightings, however, they do make the news. I have never heard of alligators north and west of SA -- so you should be fine in Boerne.

Any alligator sighting will occur on the south or southeast sides of the city because of Mitchell Lake which is also an animal sanctuary I believe that is home to alligators as well as many other species of animals. Sometimes they will travel from their up the creeks to areas on the southeast side.

Here's a funny Youtube clip:

YouTube - 410 Alligator attack

This happened very close to Mitchell Lake. The water you see in the background is actually one of several large ponds that leads to Mitchell Lake which is a few miles south.

I'm sure glad they didn't just taser him! It looked like they were having a pretty rough go of it. And the alligator just wouldn't get that goofy grin off his face either.

A taser wouldn't have done squat to that gator, his skin is so thick that the barbs would not have penetrated it. Plus, it would've only pissed him off more...

We used to have gators that size at the University of Florida. They hung around Lake Alice sunning themselves all the time. They would even be in some of the smaller drainage ponds on campus. The students were smart enough not to mess around with them, and no one was ever attacked. Gators and humans can live a peaceful co-existence...

Cheers! M2

Why would you be afraid?

Alligators are very rare in this part of Texas. They may be numerous getting towards the Louisiana border, but here in San Antonio, I have never seen one.

They should make a dumb movie about a giant Alligator in The Riverwalk.Wouldn't be any worse than all those other monster type movies.

What is worse a Crocodile or Alligator?I would say Crocodile. But I would'nt want to be near either one.

Would this be a low budget sequel to "Snakes on a Plane?"

Crocs are more aggressive than gators, but even more rare in the US...
