Okay, so I'm new to the area and I have a question. I dropped my daughter off at school this morning, and on the way back home I noticed a charcoal grey Dodge Charger with a magnetic decal on the side that said "POLICE". He seemed to be patrolling the neighborhood. If so, that's great considering we will soon be having her walk home a couple times a week. It would definitely make me feel better about the situation to know that there is a regular patrol in the area. I assume it's NISD, since this area is patrolled by the sheriff's department and I assume the decal would say sheriff instead of police if that were the case. Can anyone shed any light on this?

That is typically something a HOA pays for. My HOA tried it for a while...having them drive around periodically. Had no net effect ofn reducing our crime and the practice was discontinued.

Yes, it is most likely something the HOA has paid for. Chances are it is an off duty officer in a personally owned vehicle that has been hired to perform security. A lot of HOA's go through the Constables Office for such things.

Yep, part of the HOA dues. Most wealthy neighborhoods in Houston hire constables to do off-duty street patrols because of never ending home burglaries there...

Our neighborhood is supposed to have this on a regular basis, but they rarely show up, and our HOA doesn't really enforce it anymore...yet we still pay for it...and when we ask, the board shrugs and says, "bring it up at the annual meeting".
