The MYSA Yellow Pages has it listed as Granada Stadium 16 Theatres with an address of:

San Antonio, TX 78251-3264

That is the same address as Bill Miller Bar-B-Q at Loop 1604 and Potranco. I haven't seen any theaters in that area yet.

We are looking at Highpoint in Westcreek... is this a nice area? How far of a drive to good bookstores and/or libraries? My husband will be at Lackland and I plan to work at a school or childcare center. Are there any of either of these close by? It's hard to tell on maps/satellite because things are being built so quickly, but it looks like at least one school is nearby. We are empty nesters, so it is mainly for my employment possiblilities that I ask. Will this be a reasonable commute for my husband? Any other input on the neighborhood or area would be appreciated.

Default Homes on West Potranco

Hello missmypfc,

High Point at Westcreek is, as it says, the highest point in Westcreek, though we are only talking about 100 feet difference. That area is nice with good views of the trees to the north. You better hurry up as most of the good view lots are almost gone. There are three builders, Century (100's), Lennar (170's up), and Armadillo (150's up). I already mentioned West Creek HOA, so I won't go over that again. You might also check up Potranco (heading west) at Belle Vista subdivision. It is new and has some very nice houses (I like Highland Homes), but are more pricey/starts in 220's). Here is the web site:
http://www.highlandhomes.com/website...anAntonio.html

As for schools. There are three in Westcreek area. Galm Elementary, Ott Elementary, and Luna Middle School (last two schools are new). As for High School, there is a new one on Potranco and Ellison (Stevens HS).
The commute to Lackland AFB is pretty easy (about 15 miles away). Head south on Loop 1604 to Hwy 90 and then east on Hwy 90 to Lackland.

Steel Man,
Thanks for the info! You are right, the Highland Homes are very nice! However, as brand new empty nesters, they are probably more house than we need, as this will be our AF retirement stop, also. We'll be heading down to check out the area in about six weeks. I'll keep checking the boards until then to see if anyone has any more thoughts on this particular area.

Default Check out Alamo Ranch and Del Webb

You'll definitely want to see Alamo Ranch at Culebra and 1604. It's less than 20mins from Lackland and as people here will attest, is akin to one of the nicer areas in SA (namely Stone Oak). There is a new community called Del Webb for empty nesters. It's an active adult community.

Especially check out the Pulte side of things....they are south of the DR Horton part of alamo ranch. Pulte is more complete and their lots have lots of trees.

All in all a BEAUTIFUL place to live. I was the first person to buy and build a home in Pulte's Alamo Ranch and I love it here (live with my wife and kids).

Any questions, I'm available.

AirForceDoc,
Thanks for your input... I have to say that I got a kick out of your suggestion to check out the Del Webb place. We actually did check it out already and it's for people over 55... I forgot to mention we are "young" empty nesters at 43
Alamo Ranch sounds great, though-- especially the trees and amenities. When our granddaughter visits, it would be great to have a water park.
We looked at Stone Oak because it reminded us of Briargate in Colorado Springs... kind of the master-planned community thing we like.
By the way, where is the nearest Target store... or nearest one being built? I'm thinking I saw one somewhere over off of 1604 as we were heading home in April.

Default Target Store

The nearest store is Super Target at Bandera Point. About 4 miles north on Loop 1604 and Bandera. There will be 100 stores built beginning in 2007 at the corner of Loop 1604 and Culebra (part of Alamo Ranch), and who knows, they may build another Target there.

missmypfc there are a few more housing palces you can look at near the Super Target at Bandera. They are not as huge as the 15,000 homes at Alamo Ranch but just as lovely. Most are in the 78023 area code/Helotes area there. There's the Iron Horse Canyon that I would have loved to but in but was too expensive for us, Bavarian Forest by Ryland, Sonoma Ranch which we did buy in (love it), Pulte's Grandview which is nice but we wanted a flatter lot than what they had available. There are a ton of builders in Sonoma Ranch rather than just the 2 that Alamo Ranch has. There's Highland, Ryland, Newmark, Medallion, Newmark, and like 5 others I can't think of right now. All have model homes open. They are all 1 exit past the Bandera exit, it's the Kyle Seale exit off the 1604. The communities are on the outside of the loop between Bandera Rd and Kyle Seale.

There is also a Super Target at 1604 and Blanco.

Default New HEB Plus Opening

Rumor has it that the new HEB Plus on Potranco (about 2 blocks from Loop 1604) will open next Wednesday (Nov 1st). Look for more traffic on that road. Maybe this will cut down on the traffic coming south on Loop 1604 from Culebra (probably shoppers at the HEB there).
