Hey everyone

I'm moving to San Antonio at the end of May/early June. I was looking towards buying in the NW near 151, but now I'm leaning towards downtown (I'm a just out of college professional looking for an urban environment).

I've come across a list of lots of places, and I'm having trouble narrowing down my list. I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on any of these places:

Legacy Heights
Carlyle Place
Contour Place
Rock Creek
Villa Fontana
Vistana Apts
1221 Broadway
The Compound
Keystone @ Alamo Heights
HemisView Village - I've heard conflicting reports about the safety of this one.

Also, if you know any southtown/downtown/Pearl/broadway apartments that you know of/like, please let me know. I know about some places like Can Plant and 1800, but I eliminated them for various reasons.

Thanks in advance for any help!

1221 Broadway is my recommendation based on what you listed. I also like the Can Plant, but you marked that off your list. Did you also look at the Mosaic?

I did look at the Mosaic. They're just too much over budget along with the Can Plant.

Then I would stick with 1221 - same area with great nearby amenities within walking distance. I know several young professionals living in that complex.

I know someone who lives in 1221 and loves it. She is in her late 20s and a corporate recruiter in AH. I work with someone who lives at Contour Place. She is in her mid 20s and is generally pretty laid back, but did say that there are lots of Trinity students there so it does get loud at times. I just worry about the highway noise at 1221, like is it ever quiet? But to each their own. Good luck!

I would look at the places in Southtown. You will get more for your money in Southtown compared to the Pearl.

There are many threads discussing housing around the Pearl and Southtown.

Except for Hemisview, and 1221, none of those are downtown or very urban. They're inside the loop but still pretty far from downtown. Not bad, just don't expect to be in the urban core.

I know a number of people at Hemisview and the other units there (each phase has a different name) and they're happy. It's a bit close to the highway for my taste, but otherwise a good location. IMO these don't really have an urban feel, as they're really on the edge of downtown, but they're close enough to be convenient to downtown/Southtown activity.

1221 is probably a bit better situation, as it's near the River and close to the Pearl, which has a lot going on. It's a good alternative to the Can Plant, IMO.

Casa Lavaca just got restored, but the rates went up. It's being marketed by Centro Properties. An excellent location in Southtown.

In Lavaca and King William, there are many duplexes/small houses available for rent and you really have to be here to see the signs or learn of them through word of mouth. I'd recommend posting on some of the neighborhood specific pages on Facebook or looking in the Current or SA Express News for ads to get info on them.

Wow. Casa is indeed beautiful again... Great seeing they took the time, money and effort to do this right. The 'no pets' policy might be a tough one for some to deal with, but I think these should rent out pretty quickly.

Also to add to the list:

St Benedict's Lofts
Cevallos Apts
1800 Broadway
Blue Star Arts Complex
Steel House Lofts
Cadillac Lofts
The Exchange Building
The Casino Building
Dielmann Lofts
Milmo Lofts
King William Townhomes
South End Lofts

All of these properties are either rental or have rental units available. Also, it might help if you posted what you're looking to spend per month, as many of these spots are not cheap burbs rentals. Downtown/Southtown runs higher on price per square foot than most of San Antonio. Demand is also high, leaving most properties to rarely offer 'specials.'

Hi staunchcharacter. Thanks for that list. I'll look into some of those that I haven't heard of. I'm trying to keep it around $1300 and at least a 1b with 700+ sqft.

That should be doable in most of the units Staunch listed (thanks for filling in the list Staunchcharacter).

Southtown isn't totally urban, I like to call it "Semi-urban" but it's about it's as close as one is likely to get here.
