Maybe the old steak restaurants like Tee Pee are a thing of the past because people are more health conscious these days. I really can't think of a really great steak restaurant.

Which explains why there's a Sonic every 2.3 miles.

Ya know, that's weird, but we did have prime rib (and I mean, good prime rib!) a whole lot more when we lived in SoCal!!! One of those things, I guess. (Not that it matters to me as much anymore, since I no longer eat meat, but like you said, it's one of those food memories... )

And yeah, the Red Barn was a steak house of sorts. We ate there once. Once. For our son's birthday. None of us were too terribly impressed. Wasn't bad, but certainly wasn't worth going back for.......

The restaurant was called The Barn Door. This was the second location. The original is on Broadway and 410.

BTW...the food was NOT good...

The place was called "The Barn Door Steakhouse". The original Barn Door Steakhouse is off on New Braunsfels Ave. and has been open since the 50's. Awesome steaks...unfortunately, the 2nd store (off 151) didn't make it because they didn't have the business needed to sustain costs.

It was a good restaurant. The original Red Barn is on N. New Braunfels, I believe, so this was an attempt to open a second location. We went once, and liked the food. I think the location was just bad for anything other than a well established name, like Rudy's. Don't worry though, that corner will be bustling with businesses soon enough.

I've been there a few times. I liked it. Was something different as opposed to the regular franchises in the area. Then one day I went by and they were closed. Noooo.... now I have to suffer with Chile's and Cracker Barrel for a ribeye

OOoooohhh nooooooo! Not Chili's for a ribeye!! I have been down that road and it wasn't pretty!

I will go to Outback when I am craving cow. I have been to Texas Land and Cattle and Saltgrass but wasn't too impressed with either one. I almost never get a ribeye or ny strip steak-usually Prime Rib.
