Lol, no joke. A lot of those alternative songs are on lots of commercials. And we don't also have to depend on 96.1 or 94.1 to play em if they cross over top 40.

Using my Amazon Echo to play it right now through the TuneIN app. So far its playing very comparable music to KROQ from Southern California (where i'm from). Once they get OTA I can actually listen to a radio station here in San Antonio. I would have died if I didn't have my smart phone to play music and KROQ through my car while driving. I love San Antonio, but man their radio selections have sucked, here's to hoping this station sticks around once it's OTA.

I lived in Orange County for several years and whenever I visit I play the "How many minutes until KROQ plays a song by the Chili Peppers, Sublime or 311?" It's usually not more than 15 minutes.

I just brought up the new SA station's website and a RHCP song was playing.

Just read an article on the station, apparently it is an App that broadcasts an FM signal. Kinda strange reading it, but it sounds as though the app is going to feed through broadcast towers in Terrell Wells and broadcast OTA, not a traditional studio type broadcast, more like someone who can sit anywhere, setup the app to play the playlists and the app will broadcast it locally. We are the first city to have something like this before they expand.

If they play Green Day's Brain Stew and then Jaded, then its an alternative rock station. If its just Brain Stew, then it is mainstream rock only.

It makes sense, alot of what turns into Top 40 these day originally played on Alt Rock stations.

Sounds alot like KROQ in LA and 91X in San Diego (minus Bob Marley and Jonny Cash throwbacks) . They're playing Big Data's Dangerous right now.

Lorde, Capital Cities, Fall Out Boy, etc.

Unlike hard rock, Alt Rock stations are commercially viable these days.

Like expected, the signal is really weak. Us peeps out here in schertz/cibolo can't pick it up 😭. Go figure. Oh but we have three freakin hip hop stations that come in loud and clear all over town. And the one format that we've longed lacked is ran off a station like this where not everyone can hear it. I know I know there's an app but still, would be nice not having to depend on it.
