Can anyone direct me to the best beaches for families and give me the address. My children are 8,9 and twins that are 4 so anything kid friendly. We will be in town from June 27 thru July 1 so any idea please let me know.

Closest to adress anyone can give is by town/city. For San Antonio the 'best' beach would be South Padre Island about 4.5-5.5 hours away. The next closest/nicest beach would be Port Aransas about 3.5 hours away. I think Rockport is the safest for small kids since it is on the bayside and doesn't have the strong waves and currents that gulfside beaches do - about 20 minutes (not including ferry ride) from Port A. I keep hoping someone divulges a 'best kept secret' destination to me but so far mum's the word. Not that don't like each of the three for various reasons but would like a little more choice.

One thing to know about Texas beaches, they are not FL or the Outer Banks. During the Summer they can get quite loaded with seaweed and jellyfish (I believe it is because of the way the currents flow in the Gulf). Port A does a good job of keeping it's beaches clean during the tourist season, I can't confirm the same of SPI during the Summer but can confirm for beginning (Memorial Day) and end (Labor Day) of Summer.

As far as town ammenities. Rockport is primarily a fishing village with a viable art/retirement community. Port A feels more like a New England/MI Upper Peninsula beach town. Port A and Rockport are about 30-40 minutes from Corpus Christi. SPI feels like a smaller version of Ocean City MD/Nags Head NC and isn't near anything, which despite being generally nicer is usually cheaper (outside of Spring Break) and less crowded than Port A.

Port Aransas is nice this year. No seaweed. Also, you would have to try hard by going really slow and stopping frequently to make the drive to Port A take 3.5 hours. No way should it take anyone that long. It's about 2 hours flat to Corpus and about another 30, if not less, to Port A.

We love Mustang Island State Park and Padre Island National Seashore at Malaquite Beach. Both are between 2.5-3 hours away.

Far west side of town (+30, verified on Google), truck full of wife and kids (+30 for stops).

I don't need google to verify how long it takes me to drive from Hollywood Park with a truck full of wife and kids to Corpus and Port Aransas. I routinely make it to CC right at 2 hours and from there it's another 30 to Port A. SA to CC is about 150 miles give or take. 150/80mph roughly an hour and 52 minutes. SA to PortA is about 175 miles so 175/70mph (70 to account for slower speeds on 361 and SPID) 2.5 hours.

It's always taken us longer than 2 hours too. (From Silver Creek on the NW side) I used to drive it for work once a month at 5 in the morning, and with speeding, I could make it in a little over 2 hours and that was just to the Robstown exit (14 if memory serves me right.)

I live 199 miles away - 211 to 90 to 37. How much time does that add?
