I bought these metal “license topper" plates in Boerne, Tx.

Does anyone know the history or time period? Thanks.

I have a ’46 truck which I was thinking of attaching a plate.

A quick google search does not bring up much. This is the only thing I saw, and that isn't much at all. It may be from the mid to late 70's

These San Antonio plates were made to be attached to the top of the
Texas license plates.

My ‘40s truck has the license plates on the side.
This was typical for that time period where the location
of the license plates were on the side & adding license topper
on top would be no problem.

I have checked with the license plate hole location and the
30s Texas license plates match the holes for these plates.

I have a ‘70s Texas plate & the holes don’t match at all.
This is just guess work. But it might give me a time frame
as to when the City made these available.

Thank you for your reply.

The truck was owned & put to work by the city of San Antonio back in the 1940s.
The color was black. They were available in two tone colors, mostly in red, blue or
green with black fenders powered by a straight six.
This is what it looked like although it was in rougher condition.

A Southside car dealer bought it & fixed it up although the colors applied were something I
didn’t like as much.

I collect vintage Texaco oil cans so....

When I got the truck, I bought white-wall tires. Now I realize
I should have gotten the all black which is more suited for a work truck.

Truck is in storage until the rains stop.
But I’m not complaining.

I found only this description of the plate you posted: (seems to be exactly the same plate you bought in Boerne)
Beautiful New Old Stock License Plate Topper San Antonio City of Sunshine | eBay

And here is your another plate, with this info:
http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...ense-507865585

"I do know not the dates this attachment was used, but the holes do not match up to the standard 6" X 12" Texas plates which came out in late 1955. The latest plate I found where the holes matched up is a 1942 Texas plate. Holes also match up with 1930's Texas plates but bottom border on attachment is covered up by plate (unless holes in attachment were enlarged a bit)."

Default Cannot post anymore?

Is the old truck completely restored? Looks like it is? Yes the old Chevy taillight complete with the license plate bracket was mounted low and on the back of the drivers rear fender on those old pickups, by the manufacturer, I remember that. The tailight was underneath the tag with the license plate illuminated by the taillight. All in one bracket.
However I had completely forgotten about it, until now.

Great information. And I apologize El. I wasn’t thinking.
I have the original photos of the truck that Domingo Vara gave me when I bought the truck.
It’s exactly like the one you saw. I just can’t find them under all this clutter.
I actually have four of the “City of Sunshine"plates in assorted colors. I can’t put my hands
on them right now.
They are some where in the vast clutter of stuff I’ve collected over the years.

There are boxes everywhere. I need to start arranging & hopefully I’ll find them.

P.S. I used to be a size 10 1/2. But in the last 10 years it’s gone up to 12.
