Ive recently got accepted into TXST for their chemistry program, and im still deciding between the two which one to go? Like overall, the dorms, atmosphere, activities, studies. Everything. I just want to hear others opinions on the two schools.

San Marcos is more of a party school, but both are similar academically. I always think UTSA is slightly better but I'm not sure how that holds up when it comes to rankings. Personally, I would pick UTSA between the two.

Congratulations! Have you visited the campuses? Gone on tours? Looked online? What about clsssmstes currently? I didn’t go to UTSA because it was so close to home and Texas State was close behind so I went private and to Texas Lutheran. But working with students now, those are the questions I would ask.

My son, who was kind of an academic snob, kind of scoffed at TXST as a “last resort” on his chemistry list. Take that for what it’s worth. I’d say aim higher. You can do it.

I’d ask myself, which ones are even heard of outside of TX.

Chemistry is chemistry everywhere, either school will be fine.

You can say the same about any school south of Austin.

I didnt describe much in the first portion. So im picking between the two im not super academic but also not a big party person, im in between. Im looking for the overall like enviroment, people, how is it making friends? Best dorms? I love the fact that Texas state has a nice area and even a river on campus! And i like how it is more residential. People have also been telling me to attend UTSA because its more new and more studious. But I just want something that will make my time enjoyable overall rather than just hating my school.

It looks like Texas A&M in San Antonio has a chemistry program. I know nothing about it, but it seems graduates might benefit from having A&M on their resume and possibly the Aggie network.

UTSA is in a higher ranked subdivision of higher education as compared to Texas State and Texas A&M. The San Antonio school is not really part of the Aggie subculture, if you known Aggies who went to College Station. Here is basically a night school, working class student population.
