Educational choice is a thing and I won't fault any parent in deciding on a charter. They do what they think is best for their kid. OP asked for charter advice. I provided my insight. I am a staunch supporter of public schools. I wouldn't ever consider charters. EVER.
Don't take this the wrong way, but if you haven't lived here in 5 years, yet you're commenting on the current landscape of schooling etc in this area during Covid, how is that relevant? Also, Potranco does not intersect with 410. Just saying.

Basis test scores appear to be higher than any school I've ever seen in San Antonio. It is up there with Dallas and Houston schools.

I like the whole classical education thing Greathearts has going on, so that would be my first choice out of the charter schools.

If you know of any other charter schools that are on part with these I would love to hear it. I looked into the KIPP high school here in town and I am NOT impressed to say the least.

Marbach. Excuse me. I am thinking of the area by the HEB Plus.

And I'm commenting because I keep a general eye on it and I do have friends who are teachers and administrators in local districts as well as friends who have children in school. I work in education so its important to me to be aware of the state of education in general. Thank you for providing insight into the Academy that Jay has. I was unaware of that addition. With my work in schools, I have learned that taking just Great Schools scores and people's anecdotal experience is not the way to choose schools. If a student has special needs, career paths or interests it's very important to speak to administration and those with students currently enrolled in the school. I see it all the time in the Austin sub forum. People move to the area and want "the best schools" and they are pointed to the Eanes ISD and Leander ISD but they have some of the most pressure filled environments I have ever heard of. That's not going to be good for a lot of kids. Perhaps their student wants to be a mechanic or go to trade school, then one of the AISD schools would be best. Just like here in SA, if a student has their eyes and hearts set on going to Med School and graduating Top 8% to get into UT, and have the motivation to take all AP classes and get a 5.0 GPA, then a Brandeis, Reagan or Johnson is a good fit. But, if the student wants those other tech options then Jay IS a great choice. We don't know what the needs of the OP's kids are to offer a perfect suggestion, just that they are looking for a "good school."

In general, the options that have been provided sit in the general "good school" category.

It seems to me like you just like to contradict everything I say to invalidate it and it's unappreciated.

Actually if a student wants to pursue a medical field Health Careers High School in Northside would be the logical choice. Brandeis, Reagan or Johnson is nowhere near Seaworld which the poster requested. You might want to look at a map of Northside ISD and Northeast ISD boundaries. Heres a link so you can read up on all the different magnet schools that are offered within Northside.

https://www.nisd.net/schools/magnet

Again there are a variety of magnet schools if a student wishes to go that route.

I do not need to be appreciated by anyone. Furthermore, I might work in education as well and the schools and the school climate is MUCH different here than in Austin.

Not discounting charter schools scores and rigor. Yet they seem to lack the social aspect that children need. I have know many parents who send their kids to Basis and after a year they go back to public school bc they're miserable. All work and no play which is what kids need. To each his own I guess.

You're right it is different. But not so different that my experience and insight and long history within the city of San Antonio negates those differences.

Schools and San Antonio are constantly evolving. They both are vastly different than they were 5 plus years ago. Negating is the wrong adjective there. They poster would most likely want current insight. The area by Seaworld looks very different than it did 5 years ago when you were last here apparently.

Another question I would like to ask is how is the mosquito situation in San Antonio both in downtown area and the west hills?
