I saw this map at a gift shop this past weekend, I just may go back to buy it since I remember alot of it. But I thought I would share here since I really enjoyed it.

Some things I notice on it are the old Fiesta Plaza where downtown UTSA is today (not sure what it was but I remember seeing it when you would drive past downtown), Fiesta Texas is missing, Foleys and Frost Bros are on the map and there is a Schlotzskys in the middle of downtown.

Spurs logo on the Hemisfair Arena downtown and also a police man with a radar gun in Selma was pretty funny.

I also notice there is a cowboy next to a football player and it reads "Gun Slingers" next to IH10 and Northwest Loop 410, I guess there use to be another Gunslingers team back then.

The map also largely ignores the area North of 1604 toward the Dominion which would not be the case today.

There was t much north of 410 in 1988. We drove from 10/ de Zavala to albertson’s on Wurzbach (which is now a tutoring place? Just down the road from H-E-B), actually, we drive to Wurzbach for most things between 1988-1996.

1988 was the year Sea World opened. Fiesta Texas was not there. yet.

With the exception of a couple of small pockets, areas outside 1604 would have been unincorporated Bexar County in 1988. I worked in the Wurzbach/IH10 area at that time, and I remember Clark students packing some of the fast food restaurants around that work area at lunch time, suggesting there wasn't much commercial development north of Wurzbach back then. Commercial development will generally lag behind residential development in a given area.

When was the Dominion built? It was probably just a gated community in the country back then. Similar to today's 1604 on the southside, where there is pretty much nothing there. Once you hit 410 going south it is the country and by the time you get to 1604 it is pretty much the middle of nowhere.

Development of The Dominion began in the early 1980s.

As was the case with many of the more plebian residential subdivisions that are well inside San Antonio City Limits today, The Dominion was in unincorporated Bexar County, then later annexed by San Antonio after substantial development had taken place.

The large amount of annexation that has taken place around San Antonio is tragic and it will lead to negative consequences in the future if San Antonio keeps growing at the rate it has been, or close. I can’t see the growth rate staying constant as it has been pretty crazy the last few years or even decade but it certainly is possible.

Annexation by cities in Texas looks like it won't be as easy as it was in the past.
https://www.jgradyrandlepc.com/local...er%20be%20used).

Of course, that won't necessarily curtail development and growth. it would just impact the ability of cities to expand their boundaries.

Thanks for the reminder. I lived on de Zavala from 1988 until 2012. I’m well aware of what life was like in the middle of nowhere for that time period.

I also remember when Leon springs elementary opened when I was in 1st grade and how far out that was. It was right next to Leon springs dance hall and that was about it.
