Since when is cooperating with law enforcement a guarantee of survival.

We need to get away from that "he was not cooperative" line of thinking. All these videos show cops shout demands and immediately proceed with lethal force.

Cops are permitted to use lethal force if the perpetrator of a felony was caught in flagrente delicto and trying to escape and only if it doesn't endanger the public in the process. I am not certain what crime this kid was caught doing; but I don't think eating fast food is a felony.

That kid made the smartest decision he ever made. He would most certainly be in cold storage right now has he not driven off.
What circumstances, if any, would you recommend cooperating when approached by a police officer?

They need to check out this cop's tattoos. Maybe he's a gang member. I'm sure that if the boy had stayed there, he would be in a funeral home right now.

Priority is staying alive.
There are so many instances of individual cops acting unreasonably that young men, especially non-white ones, cannot rely on any cops acting reasonable. Even non-white cops.

Someone yanks your car door open and sticks a gun in your face...reasoning with that person is already out the door.

I am less scared of a crackhead sticking their gun in my face than a cop doing the same. Crackheads are very reasonable people.

The only charges on the kid were related to the kid fleeing, so what reasonable person would have felt it necessary to open fire on a kid. Was it reasonable for the cop to fear for his life? Is it normal procedure for cops to sneak up on someone and open their door? What made him so apprehensive that his gun was trained on the kid to begin with?

We definitely need to drill de-escalation into law enforcement. If someone is getting away LET THEM FREAKING GET AWAY unless you think that person is an immediate threat to life or may cause bodily harm to others. Someone running a red light, sleeping in their car or just flat out looking suspicious should not end up in the morgue for trying to get away.

Someone drives their car through a group of people and recklessly speeds away, five, have at him.

If you can't safely detain someone you should have a very good reason for unsafely detaining them.

I’m not unsympathetic to your general concerns re policing. I don’t think you really answered my question. I don’t think we have the same perspective as evidenced by your statement “ I am less scared of a crackhead sticking their gun in my face than a cop doing the same. Crackheads are very reasonable people.” I’ve had a gun pointed at me during a robbery….I didn’t think the guy pointing the gun was reasonable. I’ve been stopped multiple times by cops for traffic violations…I’ve never felt in any danger. My experiences only…others have had different experiences, but if I had to bet my life, I’d rather be approached by a cop than an armed crackhead.

Sure let’s make it a race issue.

You should consider visiting Brazil some time if you want to learn the answer to that question.

I have. Crime is off the charts, compared to here, but my question is still the same, how are we any different? Only difference I see is instead of sweeping the investigation under the carpet, we would have had a sham investigation and declared the cops actions justified.

And yes it is a race issue. It disproportionately affects men who are non-white and increasingly non-white women. No cop would be nailed to a cross if he lifted a gun to a white woman so yes it is a race issue.
