Castle Doctrine only allows non-licensed individuals to carry in their cars or places of business; therefore, it is not the same as concealed handgun carry, which can be done in most public places with a CHL.

The only ones who should be scared of this are the criminals, as they are directly affected by the legal right to lethal self-defense.

Anyhow, I would be more scared of the way licensed drivers drive around here than people with handguns!

Also please keep in mind that in order to have a CHL, you go through a background check much more thorough than you may expect. Many law enforcement officers are happy when a CHL is handed over with a driver's license during traffic stops; if a person is carrying a CHL, they already know that they guy has been checked out through federal crime databases and is much less likely to give them trouble.

I was recently re-introduced to the proper techniques and respect for handling firearm, and I will admit that I had a fear of firearms. I had been taught how to shoot as a child, but as time went on I didn't continue and I became "afraid", for lack of a better word.

But late last year, after nearly a year of training and recreational shooting at a range I decided to apply for my CHL. I thought long and hard about it, but I was honestly not as prepared to deal with that decision as I thought. I still recall that night after I completed the day long course (approx 10-12 hours), finally realizing the tremendous civic and emotional responsibility I voluntarily chose to undertake. I have never been a proponent of violence, nor have I ever been a fan of being victimized...and I figured that once I educated myself about some home/self defense options that I would choose the responsible and legal route to defend myself and my home. And several have already say it, but I'll say it again...the process to become licensed to carry a concealed handgun is VERY extensive and a protracted procedure. I had to go the the police station to get finger printed and honestly if I wasn't "on the grid" before, then I am now!

Thanks for starting the thread Major!

That procedure is nothing compared to a security clearance with the government, and that's not to carry a gun.

No kidding! I found it ironic that the state felt they had to do this intense background check on me when the Federal government had already done so...
