I realize this is an older post, but I wanted to reply. I've owned 5-6 houses in Mahnke (still have 2), and have enjoyed owning them. I have had several single ladies rent from me and stay in a unit 3 years, which is pretty long for a renter. Any questions -- feel free to ask.

I am preparing to move from San Antonio and plan to sell out; nonetheless, I think it's a great place to invest or live.

I see this post has been revived and would like some info also, as there are a few units for rent. Are opinions still the same about the safety? We have not driven out there but are seeing things online on Claremont Avenue.
We are looking for inexpensive and safe. I would appreciate continued or updated information.

I have owned 5 rental properties (about 20 units)in the past 15 yrs on Claremont and Eleanor. I have seen a good trend of improvement and a better caliber tenants over this time. I have had many single women that have renewed their lease and stayed several years. I had one lady move out and buy the house next door five years ago. The closer you get to N New Braunfels, you might see a decline in pride of ownership, etc. I would personally favor staying reasonably close to Broadway vs New Braunfels.Yes, you might have a car broken into, just like in any nbhd., but I never had any violent crimes or any units broken into. I hope this helps.

Shane SA - I know that this thread is really old but thought I'd give it a shot to get in touch with you. I'm moving to San Antonio in a few weeks and looking at the Mahncke Park area. Do you still have rentals there? I'm looking for a duplex.

the only bad i can see about mahnke park (im currently renting there) is the roads. hildebrand is TERRIBLE and murder on my suspension. i have a volvo with a 2" drop and i feel pretty much every small / large bump on that road.

the far left/right lane, depending on what side youre on, are terrible also. tons of DEEP ditches/dips, tons of potholes, lots of cracking.

other than that, its a nice neighborhood.
