I know this is from 8 years ago, but I have a similar problem in Ohio. I've never had a state needing me to transfer a lienholder's title from one state to another, then wait two weeks to get it and having to get other information together to actually go get it and bring it to them. Then I still have to get a smog and do/pay for vehicle registration.. very frustrating. I've lived in CA, AZ, FL, and TX and don't recall having to jump through so many hoops. It is what it is I guess. Faxing the paperwork to my lienholder today..

When I moved here from GA a couple years ago, it seems I remember there is no requirement (legal requirement) to register your car in TX.

Maybe I'm wrong about that...or missing some fine point that makes it the right thing to do.

Of course I registered mine, quick like.

If you don't like the way texas does car registration feel free to move to another state we have enough out of state people moving here as it is.

we have emissions testing in most places so get over it.

Better yet, stay in TX and register your vehicles in sales tax, and no emission or inspection state of MT. LLC, that is how many FT RV's do it ( tho they prefer to use income tax free SD as domicile and MT LLC as vehicle addy.). Many MT companies are set-up to provide your licensing needs. $700 or DIY for $120.

If you trigger TX domicile, then you are required to license / register vehicle in TX.

My vehicles all live at "Boarding School' in a non-emission county.

Not that they can't pass, as they all do (home brew biofuel, so no detectible 'carbon based' emissions.) Easier to send cars to boarding school than to explain to emissions staff each and every time on 34 vehicles.

Here in California there is no such thing as an annual vehicle inspection, only a smog check is required every few years. Great for keeping tailpipe emissions in check, but without any safety inspection you end up with unfit vehicles driving around with broken tail lights, bald tires, missing bumpers or worse. Mind you an anual safety inspection will not take all unsafe vehicles or uninsured vehicles off the road in Texas, but it makes a noticeable difference and it also protects you and your property.
If you saw the safety inspection, you would just laugh. It's a joke and isn't anything special. If you think getting vehicle stuff is a pain , wait till you get your drivers license. That's a total pain in the ass and us totally unnecessary
