Advertisements

What's the deal with those negative ads about Lyle Larson, where they say he "wants us to pay even more" and supports a 23% national sales tax. I'm not all that political, but aren't people kind of upset about this being a pretty blatant lie? The commercials are extremely misleading and make it sound like he wants this national sales tax on top of the taxes people are already paying, which of course isn't true.

Ad:
YouTube - Lyle Larson: For Taxes. Not Texas (TX-23)

The ad references the link below (as a source?), but the page doesn't say anything about a national sales tax. It may have been changed since the ad started running.

Issues

I've seen a Larson ad a few times where he says that ad is a lie, and rather unconvincingly says "shame on you Ciro!" If I were him, I'd have gone with much stronger language and said Ciro is a bold-faced liar and asked if you want a liar like that in Congress. I'm probably overreacting (I must be, since I haven't heard anyone else talk about this), but I don't know, the ad seem really dirty and shameful. Although at least the other versions of the ad are unintentionally funny, with the people who look at the camera and say "What??!" and "Come on!!"

So, thoughts? By the way, I apologize in advance for starting a political thread.

It's only half the truth. he may want a national 23% sales tax , but it also goes with repeal of the internal revenue income tax. it's been in discussion for a long time. it's not even Lyle's idea.
The trouble with the "lie" ad is that it's only half truth and people only listen half the time, so half the people are going to believe it and vote for Ciro. Or so he hopes.
I also did hear that Ciro has not been seen around for a while. Did he give up?
I already voted so no matter what any one of them does, will not affect me or the other 150.,000 people who voted already.

It's called the fair tax. Neal Boortz actually wrote a couple of books about it. I think it's a fabulous idea and I wish it would happen! I would check out the fair tax if you want to know more about the 23% sales tax.

It bothers me everytime I see it. As someone already mentioned it's not a tax on top of our income tax but it's in replace of. I agree Lyle should have called him come out stronger against these ads.

I think ciro has a little bit more money than Lyle and that's why you hear his annoying voice every day and see his ads in your mailbox every day too. Hopefully it'll be a large waste of money.

I will be so glad when this election is over. That particular commercial, especially with his I'm Ciro Rodriguez and I approve of this ad and the care that our veterans deserve just makes me ill everytime I see it. It makes me mad that he thinks so many people are so stupid - but sadly, he is probably right about that.If Ciro defeats Larson, I think everyone should bombard his office with e-mails and letters asking him why he is such a liar.

Larson needed to do a better job fighting back IMO. I hope it doesn't cost him the election.

Once thing I'm also tired of hearing is when politicians use the phrase, "Washington is broken". Argghh!
