I keep hearing all these restaurants on the North side are closing. Flemings, Silo 1604, Kirbys, Ounce, Ruths Chris. As a frequent diner and having business relationships with all of these places, I can safely say NONE of them have any plans of closing. But I keep hearing the rumors every week. Who starts these and why? We are so happy to have all these wonderful new places to go without having to drive downtown, and I feel like "Well who wants to go to a place thats closing down?" But none of them are. They are all alive and well and excited about the coming years of development in the area. I guess this is more a rant than anything, but it's just frustrating to hear the same thing over and over from some "well informed" people around the city.

NORTH SAN ANTONIO IS NOT DYING! IT'S EXPANDING! COME SEE!

I haven't ever heard any of those rumors. I mostly hear about retail outlets, such as Home Depot, Toys R Us, and the ones that have already filed for bankruptcy--Circuit City, Mervyn's, etc.

I thought Stone Oak was booming? I haven't been over there in about 2 years, but whenever I was, everything was always very vibrant and busy. Of course, that was before all of the problems with the economy started hitting.

Don't know WHO you are listening to or WHERE you here these rumors, but it was not on this forum.

Maybe you are hanging with an unreliable crowd, because most everyone here knows better....

I have never heard of any of those places so I can only assume they are doing well with the right crowd. HA

I heard Kirby's closed a few weeks back, but hadn't checked to see if it was true. Is there any truth to it?

They're open and they tell me have no plans for closing at all. We had dinner there Tuesday and they said they have already scouted out a downtown location to be open sometime 2010.

I also don't recall seeing threads here with rumored future closings in the Stone Oak area along 1604. But there have been many discussions here of restaurants that have closed. Off the top of my head, these are the restaurants that have closed in the area in the last 5 years. I'm fairly certain we've discussed them all at some point.

Buck's Landing
The chinese buffet behind Rio Mambo
EZ's Grill
The deli that replaced EZ's Grill
Fazoli's
Back Yard Burgers
Eipstein's Burgers
Pasion!
Jack in the Box (1604 and 281 location)
Tin Star
Cheesy Jane's
Barnacle Bill's

Wow, I'm surprised Cheesy Jane's closed up there. The one at Bandera and 1604 lost my business when I paid $50 for 4 people to eat mediocre burgers. I've never been back. Did they just have a bad location there?

Eipstein's was really good, and I was sad to see them go. Really nice people, too.
