Is it just me, or is anyone else in need of CPR after getting their CPS bill this month????

I guess the REAL kicker is Rob is gone, so no one at home all day long...set the thermostats to 80 for the entire day, do bring it down to 73 when we are home in the evenings, less laundry and the bill this month was $283!!!!! DANG!!!!!! We have had bills that high before, and for 3000+ sq ft I suppose that is ok, but that was WITH kids, home, running things, laundry, etc.

There was a point we thought we had planned well for retirement, but with gas and electric bills, maybe we will not be as comfortable as we thought we might. Besides, it may be better to go to work just for the A/C and heating we won't be able to afford!!!

Tell EMS to come get me after they get you! Mine is $350.00, I'm only home half of the day since my daughter has practice for ten million things all week long and I leave the thermostat on 78. I run the fans once we're home. Oh yeah and I'm only in 1551 square feet.

GROSS!!!!!

City council just approved a rate increase for CPS. Too bad they chose to phase it in during a time when we are having a near-record heat wave.

I guess these big bills will make the notion of forcing everyone to install solar cells easier to swallow in a few years.

Wow, mine is 85-95 a month.......My place isnt big. about 1900sq. ft and i leave it at 80 during the day and 78-79 when i get home. Sounds warm it's actually cool. What helped me SO much was my investment in wood blinds. It's keeps the place very dark and blocks out all the sun. Before that I had the ugly plastic blinds that are typical white and break easy. try investing in 1 1/2 inch wood blinds. It's only going to get worse.....

I have the budget plan with cps. That way I know every month what my bill will be. If the actual bill is less ( about half the time) then the rest goes into a savings account and they draw from that when they need to. I dont have a bill about the last 3 or 4 months of the years becasue I have so much left over. This year my bill is always going to be $164.00 a month. I can live with that. I have about 2700 sq. ft, 2 story with 2 ac units. It's just me here during the day and we leave it a 80 most of the time ( that's my excuse for not doing anything most of the time!!). I also use a lot of fans.

Well, thanks for the warning folks. Though it still does not mean I will not go into cardiac arrest. Our house is two stories and about 2,700 sq feet and we leave our AC at 78 all the time...though we have been able to shut it off at night a few times last week. I just checked my bill online and the new one is not up yet.

Now I do have the wood blinds also and do keep it dark. We just put up those cheap plastic blinds9 in our sun room( which is all windows) and I keep them closed if no one is in there.

Hmmm, our bill won't come for another couple of weeks. May was about $75.

We only have 1600SF but it's not as well insulated as we'd like. We leave it at 80F when home, about 85F during the day (so it doesn't get too hot and too hard to cool down), but it still has been running a lot hence the 15-20 gal of water/day that comes out of it...

Can't wait til we have all our windows finished! That'll make an enormous difference once we can leave all the doors/windows open and not turn on the a/c.

Mine was $270, which is more like a July bill. Luckily I'm on that economy program thing where they take 12 months and spread it around. It's much easier to have the same bill every day instead of stressing how badly you're going to get killed at the beginning of each month.

Mine was $207. 1500sf too.. We just replaced our screens with solar screens, so I am hoping to see a difference with the next bill. I was shocked.. I can only expect everything to go up, but our paychecks..
