It's really not ALL THAT. It is fun, but really, once you've seen one border town, you've, well, more than likely been accosted by a four year old selling keychains or some beaded trinket, or worse.

The little bar is pretty basic, but seriously there's a ton of money stapled to the walls. And his cans of Tecate are cold enough to make your teeth hurt. Other than that, there are about 359 dentists , a couple of restaurants, several street food vendors, shops full of blankets, sombreros, and jumping beans.....and many farmacias, liquor stores, and smoke shops--with real imported Cuban cigars .

And lots of silver stuff for the house and jewelry and glassware!

I love going over there. I always find great gifts there, plus of course a few things for me.

Some poor fool said to me yesterday, "When you say "inside the loop" which loop do you mean?" Which of course led me to give him THE LECTURE. Poor guy.

He and his wife just moved here from New York a few months ago, so they're forgiven - a little. His wife works inside the loop, though, so I'm not sure what his confusion was about!

Everyone else at the table laughed when he asked because they knew what was coming. The upside of it is now he and his wife are curious about more than just suburban and exurban San Antonio. They, like many people, were completely under the impression that anything inside 410 was gangsta land.

Reading this thread by our neighbors in the Houston forum provided me reassurance that San Antonio at least doesn't have the worst drivers in the state.

I don't know about that.. I've been in Houston several times and there were plenty of bad one, but not even close to the quality of bad ones we have here.

Sapphire (and LindaGrace), good for you for going to the Missions game. These minor league teams need all the support they can get. We had a minor league team once in the Harlingen area and they closed down shortly. No support there (it's football country). I have yet to go to one. Sounds like an event I need to take my folks to.

It's really a lot of fun.......even the cheesy stuff like doing the "Y-M-C-A" dance, and singing "Sweet Caroline"--in fact, my son was completely disappointed that they didn't do "Sweet Caroline" on Friday and I had to tell him that I think they just didn't have time between the game and giving away all those cars.....I'm hoping that song is a regular feature.

We were sitting in the next section over from this lady that got whacked in the forehead by a foul ball....turns out that was the SECOND time she was hit that night. Sonny Melendrez blogged about it on mysa.com--she got hit in the stomach on her way in and then again in her seat. When asked why she didn't just go home she said "They haven't given away all the cars yet!" LOL glad she's OK--she got right up and outta there when we saw her get hit. She looked kinda mad but I guess after 2 I would have been, too. She SHOULD have gotten a car!

Oh, and the puffy taco is just gross.
