Man I haven't been bowling in forever! Bandera Bowl is ok, Lackland's lanes are ok, I think University Bowl was probably the best out of the ones I've been to. Unfortunately they closed down the lanes on Kelly, what a waste!

Well Brooks Bowling Alley is long gone!! Been there many years ago!! Ponderosa on Goliad Road just south of Pecan valley!! Bowling has become high end entertainment recent years!!

I would say university bowl and country lanes (bitters/281) are the nicest. Last year they had dollar bowling nights on monday and wednesday at country lanes but I'm not sure now

University Bowl is fun. We used to go on Sunday afternoons, but got out of the habit.

country lanes at 281/bitters is the one you want if you want nice and clean as far as the actual building, the employees, and the other customers that bowl there. they have a lot of specials and a good selection of arcade games as well.

Hopefully I can help out a bit here.

1. Brunswick 1000 Oaks -1000 Oaks and Perin Bietel- always clean, staff is pretty friendly there.

2. Oak Hills Lanes -Fredricksburg and Callahagn- Again always clean, and friendly staff as well.

3. University Bowl -I 10 and DeZevala- Clean, best Pro Shop in town by far, but bowling center staff is not very friendly at all, overall customer service sucks.

4. Wonder Bowl -Austin Hwy- normally clean, dark, customer service is so/so.

5. Bandera Bowl -Bandera Rd- Clean, well lit, but since it is in Leon Valley you can smoke in there and that is a big turn off for me.

6. Country Lanes, -Bitters and 281- although the biggest in San Antonio, possibly one of the worst, nothing good to say about this pace at all.

7. Ponderosa Lanes -Goliad Rd- Almost the same as Country Lanes, and owned by the same company.

8. Astro Bowl -Harry Wurzbach and Austin Hwy- This is the worst bowling center in San Antonio HANDS DOWN!!! This place needs a can of gasoline and a box of matches. The building should be condemned, and the wood lanes need to be recycled into toilet paper. This is just a bad place and the management is worse.

As a bowler who bowls in leagues and tournaments regularly, I hope this helps you out. I like both Brunswick 1000 Oaks and Oak Hills Lanes pretty much equally.

Thanks so much -- especially for the info on Bandera Bowl. I'm so glad I didn't have to find that out for myself!

We were going to have a birthday party for my son at Bandera Bowl last year, when I went to pick up the "complimentary invites" the thick fog of smoke smacked me right in the face, that I actually ended up cancelling right then and there. I didnt know they allowed smoking, the last time I was there was over 10 years ago and I just didnt remember that part. (It had been such a long time I actually thought they still had the "Fun Plex") Though the staff is super nice. They ended up giving me 10 passes and we went a few weeks later with friends (no kiddos).

Oak Hills has Cosmic Bowling on the weekends Oak Hills Lanes: Cosmic_Bowling - San Antonio,TX
