San Antonio Question (2nd Attempt) (Austin: living in, restaurants, to move)

Hi, I appreciate everyone who replied to my last thread, but I only really got two answers and the rest was just the same old debate about race/class. So, to clear things up, I like Mexicans whether they are considered Hispanic or Mexican. I'm not looking for a corporate job; I want to teach. If I didn't get a teaching job, I would probably look for non-profit job.

Now, to move on from that to my question, that I really would love and appreciate feedback for:

I want to teach in San Antonio; I'm looking to teach ESL or Bilingual.

I wanted to know about machismo or general male attitude toward women in the city, or just here some experiences from people in similar situations (dating, working, living in SA as a single girl).

Also, how living is there. Laidback and calm for a big city? (I'm not a big city gal). Lots of outdoor seating at restaraunts/mid-day margarita sipping?

Is there a good music scene (for rock/indie)?

Are there a lot of cute boys with tattoos?

I think San Antonio is pretty laidback for a "big" city.

As far as male attitude towards women, i would have to say with over a million folks here, you'll find a wide range of different personalities. Just depends on the type of crowd you hang with i guess.

yes, it's a serious question. trying to 'lighten it up' after the last question that I posted, that just turned into a racial debate. the results were very disappointing, and yes, i am asking about the culture of the people in SA. I don't know how to link it, but i only have one other ? on here, check out the results for yourself.

There are more females than males in San Antonio.

maowkss, that last question made me giggle! Yes, there are quite a few cute boys with tattoos!

On your question about the "machismo" attitude, I think I know what you were referring to. When I lived in Phx, there would often be gatherings of older adult, yes immigrant Mexican, men sitting around. If a young women walked by they would frequently make remarks, whistle, or just in general stare in a way that would make me uncomfortable. I have not experienced that in SA (but then again, I'm no longer "young" ). The attitude of men out here seems much more laid back, not so much "machismo".

And yes, living out here is laid back and casual. Lots of restaurants have outdoor seating, and especially along the RiverWalk you'll see mid-day margarita sipping.

Musis scene for indie/rock is probably a little better in Austin, but there was a mini SXSW here this year, and I think that genre is gaining popularity.

We need good teachers!

thanks jules07. we have the same name (julie i presume) and i on other sites refer to myself as julez07 (yeah, i'm real funky with the 'z' in there). thanks for the response. austin is really close ... i'm sure if i can't find the social scene i'm looking for in SA i can just jaunt off to austin, right?
