I recommend Dr. Rafael Parra & Associates at (210) 226-8349. He replaced two of my herneated discs back in December 2007. I know there are horror stories about undergoing back surgery. But I have no regrets electing to do so. I am very thankful for his expertise and for leading a normal life with out back pain. Good luck to you an God bless.

Is it possible to be a bad neurosurgeon? Aren't they the cream of the crop as far as physicians go? I am being facetious, but they have to be darn good to get to that level. Then again, you all know what they call the person who graduated last their class in med school. Doctor.

That is true (they call the last guy "doctor") but the chances are next to 0 that such a person will be a Neurosurgeon.

Medical Students face insane competition to become certain "kinds" of doctors. You dont graduate from Medical School and decide to be a neurosurgeon. You must be accepted to a residency. In the United States, there are less than 200 slots each year. In other words, less than 200 people a year in the entire country even get a shot at training to become a neurosurgeon and those slots go, almost exclusively, to some of the best and most accomplished applicants who are graduating Medical School.

There are other highly competitive specialties as well.

My point exactly.
By their nature alone, most all will be excellent practitioners.

My wife needs back surgery and doctors have told her they will have to remove disks and place titanium bars. Have you heard or know about a different alternative here in San Antonio or any other city in Texas? Thank you in advace for your help.

If you are referring to the titanium ribs, that's a fairly new procedure itself. It was pioneered by a doctor here in SA (who is not longer here).

Info: VEPTR - The Titanium Rib Project

If you are looking to an alternate, you would really have to consult your doctor.

Thank you for answering, the discs are in the Lumbar region. L4-L5 and L5-S1. Doctor says they need to be removed and then will place two bars and screws. I believe they call it Lumbar Spinal Fusion. The question is if there are new methods to replace the discs that are bulged.

If you are talking spinal fusion, then you will also need to talk to an orthopedist...what you are talking about is not the VEPTR surgery.

Sorry but I wouldn't have this guyl (D. Hilton) if you paid me. I had him in 2001 and had a bad experience with his office, his bedside manor, the hospital and everything all the way around. Would never go to him ever again!
