I am planning to relocate to San Antonio next year and I would appreciate your help in a few areas.

I work in the marketing field and I was wondering how the market for this type of jobs is? Any advice on this? Are there any local Marketing Associations? I have a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing (Minor in International Marketing and Finance) and over 5 years of experience. Also, how much should I expect to be paid? Right now I am the Marketing Manager for the company I work for. What are the best sites to look for marketing jobs in SA? Do you know any companies that hire for their marketing department?

Thanks for your help.

Marketing jobs are few in San Antonio, and many are low paying because the job market is flooded with marketing majors.

+1, when I was in school (5 yrs ago) everyone pushed that "marketing was a skill that was needed to know in order to survive in the business world"...

so I got a degree, and now i'm working in procurement/finance/accounting. so much for the picture that UTSA painted for me.

It's been said before, but it's more advisable to have a job before moving to a new place. Even though we may not be hit as hard by economic downturn the unemployment rate is still pretty high in San Antonio.

I did see a job posting for a contract Community Relations thing for rackspace...but watch out I may apply for that one in a few days. "

Enjoy the multiple 1hr phone interviews with every manager there.

Can't fault them for being selective. They've got what YOU want. It's a great company to work for from what I hear (my friend's son attends St. Mary's and interns at Rackspace for $17 an hour. Not too shabby for a college student and it's much more than the norm here.) They are looking for a particular personality, not just what you can do/have done.

If you're single, look into the Mobile Marketing companies located around the country. I traveled the country with several of them for a few years when I was just out of college. Great experience. Great pay. Fun. Got to see the country on someone else's dime.

Tell me about it. Me and my Wife both graduated with BBA's in Marketing from UTSA in Dec. 04 and we never obtained a Marketing job or that "big job" they said that we'd be so much qualified for over others. The job market does kinda suck here in SA not just for Marketing but for other stuff too. I tried for Labatt marketing rep a couple of times, got interviews and nothing. All that you see on Monster under Marketing is a bunch of Sales Jobs which you kinda wonder if they are even legit half the time because it's the same ones you always see day in and day out. Luckily, me and my wife have decent jobs (not the ones we obviously wanted out of college with a BBA) so we can't complain. I will continue to look for opportunities within the Marketing/sales field and get that payday someday.
