We have been to Luciano's Neighborhood Pizzeria on Stone Oak & Sonterra a couple of times. The pizza, stromboli & calzones are pretty good. It's kind of a "cafeteria" style place (think La Madeline). The owner was very friendly and from Italy. He made the rounds to each table and talked a bit with us and we found out he is from Sicily...I guess that makes this place pretty authentic.

Default Best italian restaurants in town.

Best places to eat and are fairly expensive are both Paeseanos 1604 and Ciao 2 in stone oak. Highly recommend both.

I am a German who has an Italian mom, and do live in San Antonio.
The Italian and German food in this city is ridiculous and is an insult to the original cooking. My italian part of the family cannot even fathom to eat in any of those "italian" restaurants, and believe me we went to all of them on this thread and more. The same with German restaurants, the best one is in New Braunfels, the FRIESENHAUS.
Best Italian restaurant in the vicinity of San Antonio is in AUSTIN, on the second street, the TAVERNA.
Frankly, I don't like San Antonio, as with most of the things here the offerings are at best mediocre.

Have you been to Il Sogno or Tre? Both are better than Taverna, in my opinion.
