Anyone know of a good place to take it in without being charged an arm and a leg? I know there's Best Buy but they wanted 100 bucks when I called them before. When I started up, it loads up and after a while, this blue screen flashes for like a second with writing on it but then my laptop just starts over. This happens everytime. I can't even started up on a safe mode cause the same thing just happens. Any savey IT people out there with some good advise??

Take it to BJ's or the Laptop Specialist on 151.

What error code did the screen show? If you can see it, that is! Have you tried booting into safe mode?

Try posting in the Computers forum, you may get your problem fixed for free!

why not just reload the operating system? hopefully you backed everything up first. That is the free way to at least try to get it back in order.

BJ and Associates now has two locations: The original location on Gulfdale near the airport and The Laptop Specialist store on 151/410 (near Whataburger).

a BSOD can also be hardware related. I would open it up, give it a good cleaning, and reseat the RAM, video card, and anything else you have plugged in any of the slots. They can be a real PITA to fix, but a lot of it can easily be done on your own.

I had the same problem with my laptop before, did exactly what this poster has suggested and it worked fine.

These dry cool days are just perfect for dorking around inside of your laptop...NOT.

Static electricity will kill your memory, processor etc.

Let a professional handle it.

or simply discharge the static you have built up in you and don't rub your feet across a rug while wearing wool socks and working on the innards. I've been doing this since the mid 90's and have yet to fry anything. Just be careful and follow common sense, like don't work on it in the bathtub or during a thunder storm (which should happen any moment now) while it is still plugged in.
I just hate to see people pay insane prices for repairs. I've seen what they charge and it should be criminal. You're talking several hundred dollars per hour of labor when you do the math.
