Where do people in San Antonio go for Empanadas? I only know of Betos Comida Latina and Global Inspiration. Ive never tired Betos however. Does anyone have stories on these two places?

Are you talking about sweet or savory.

most mexican bakeries have sweet empanadas of pumpkin and pineapple.

there are not to may places that make the savory meat filled empanadas

I had a friend from Argentina that used to bring pork empanadas to work, they were the most amazing little pies. I like the sweet ones too, but would love to find a place that makes meat-filled!

Empanadas....yummm.....LOVE them - no matter what they have 'stuffed' inside Our favorite mexican restaurant has these in their baked goods that are for sale....if you get near the main post office on Perrin Beitel, check out Las Carrates directly across the street. Not sure I've seen savory ones there, but they have the traditional sweet ones like pumpkin, pineapple, etc..

Global Inspirations is fairly new - a few months maybe? Since Mr Tim's moved to the old Barbed Wire Grill on S. Presa. Carmens de la calle cafe - GLOBAL INSPIRATION food & catering Box Lunches, Private Parties, Catering, and food to go (http://www.carmensdelacalle.com/private-parties-catering.html - broken link)
I believe it's the same owner as Carmen's de la Calle.

Very very good!

Betos is wonderful! The chicken empanada and the banana & caramel dessert empanada are excellent. That is what I order everytime I go there. I have never tried anything else because those are soooo good. I highly recommend Betos.

I know you are looking for a place to purchase empanadas, but have you ever tried to make them? My daughter tried over Christmas with a recipe she found online and they were soooo easy and tasted fabulous. She tried a beef picadillo recipe, but left out the raisins and olives.

Thanks for posting the link to Carmens. Those varieties look yummy, especially the guava with cream cheese. We will definitely have to check them out!

Actually I dont think the sweet filled empanadas are the traditonal ones. THe other way around. It seems that these pumpkin and dessert empanadas are only the traditon in Mexico. Everywhere else in Latin America they are filled with meats.
