we used to do that as kids too and I'm sure billions of fireflies have died to provide kids around the world with some glow-in-the-dark bling..

and it is definitely disgusting when you think about it as an adult.. very cool as a kid though

Hmmm, too bad I did not know that as a kid, that would have been cool. Now, how do you make sure they are lit at the time of smearing? Just being quick?

It's pretty obvious, but I'm not going to be responsible for the death of more fireflies

That's what I was thinking. They are so sweet to watch, and it pains me to think I killed hundreds of them. Please stop the murder of these innocents!!

Yea! I love fireflies. I have lived in N.M. for the past 27 years and we don't have them. I am so excited to see them again. Dorky, I know. We are driving out in the morning to our new home in Schertz. Can't wait to get there!! When I lived in New Jersey as a kid I used to catch them too. Never did the jewlery thing though.

I was never mean to the fireflies. I just caught them in my hand and then let them go. I love seeing them when I'm sitting out on the porch. It always brings me back to my childhood summers.

My sister and I would "dot" our ears for "earrings!" *lol*
