I've been noticing that the inland empire is starting to look rundown & kinda gloomy/sluggish lately aha its starting to turn into LA, especially the colton/san bernardino/highland area :P even some of the nicer cities are getting some trashy people there, like redlands is starting to look like san bernardino, murrietas getting some scummy people,&& victorville is getting all the trash from LA lmaoo! i feel like all these people from La are moving over here & turning it bad :P I've watched the inland empire transform in these last 10 years & its crazy how much its changed! populations & all haha I feel like our crime & diversity is becoming comparable to LA nowadays....but Its okay i still love the IE <3 Does anybody else recognize this?

I feel that people yearn for the "good 'ole days" that never existed. Redlands always looked liked that. Colton was always filled with tract houses next to Reche Canyon (with green lawns) and with not so great areas further north. Murrieta has always had scummy people (as you put it).

My family has been in the IE for the last 5 decades on and off. The biggest changes were not in the last 10 years. In fact, the largest changes were in the 1980s (when I was born) to the mid/early 1990s (when I was a kid). There, the IE went from mostly rural with some suburbs to mostly suburban with some rural parts. Demographics really changed in this time period too. I guess it really accelerated around middle school. I like the new diversity. I think that it's better.

Crime has actually gone down. For example, when Moreno Valley was majority non-Hispanic White...crime was WORSE. As time went on, crime actually fell. Median income has stayed on the same trajectory for the city as well.

The IE has actually seen its family income grow faster than the national average. The IE is home to the fastest growing UC as well as some of the fastest growing private liberal arts colleges.

So really, the opposite of what you're saying is occurring. We're getting better.

This recession has stung, but it's temporary. Businesses looking for coastal alternatives trend towards the IE.

Agreed.

In 1992, our whole world around Home Gardens exploded. Corona Hills was born.

All that crap off McKinley: wasn't there before that. Think rolling hills, tumbleweeds, no traffic, 1 gas station, no grocery store, no Wal-Mart, nothing.

Before that, shopping was mostly done on Main St in Corona, or on Tyler in Riverside.

Change is constant and inevitable. I'll bet next time I go there I'll see even more junk that wasn't there last time I was there.

Personally, I noticed it looking rundown & going down the tubes in the early 1970s.

I remember when the closest shopping center in Moreno Valley was Riverside Plaza. We mostly shopped at Tyler.

Worse employment, worse smog, worse crime. The IE has been worse than LA for many many years and frankly, I don't see it getting better.
