Hello,

My flight leaves at 9pm on the 16th on the first day of the 405 closure. I plan to use a rental car. I found that Hertz provide one, not sure of the others. Are there other rental car companies I should consider?

From reading on the forum, I can take the 15 to the 10 or 60, to the 110 or 105 or 91W-110N-105W to avoid the 405.

What route is best to take and how long do I need to give myself time to reach LAX along with the security checkpoints before the late evening flight?

Thanks!

Yikes. Are you sure you can't change your ticket to fly out of Ontario? I would avoid that area if I could.

I do Chino Hills to LAX frequently but never on the weekend. I would take the 91W->110N->105W. To avoid the 405 go past the 405 exit on the 105 and take Sepulveda North. I know the 10W and 60W can slow down on Saturday nights but nothing like bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic on a weekday. I'd probably leave 4 hours before the flight with the rental car return but I like to live on the wild side

If you're doing a one-way rental Enterprise is the only company that doesn't do that. Check a site like Orbitz to see who has the best price.

I tried to price out the Ontario airport before, but they are more expensive than LAX. I will keep Ontario in mind when I reserve in the future though, the pricing could change down the road. Thanks though! Thanks for the route and will have to tough it out on the LA freeways on that historic weekend with the compact size rental!

BTW, the scheduled 405 closure is between the 10 and the 101 so it won't affect you. It's probably more convenient to take the 405 north since you're returning a rental.

There are also some decent <$12/day parking options if you drive your own car. I have used this place before:

105 Airport Parking El Segundo, CA

They have a coupon that takes the price down to $9/day. The shuttles don't run as often as the bigger lots but it should still be quicker than picking up and dropping off a rental.

Actually, I used that same parking lot a few months ago. I found that place on CheapAirportParking.org. Thanks for that coupon, I could use it for next time.

Last time, I had to park my car for a month. So this time, I will rent a car one-way from Hertz (best price I could find and it has the pick me up option) and drive to LAX to drop-off as I may need to say longer just in case.

Then, I will have to make another reservations for the return back. I will have to look for off-airport rental to find the best price.

You could take the rail route. Metrolink to Santa Fe Springs(IE/OC line, 91 line), bus from SFS Metrolink depot to LA Metro Green Line depot a few miles down the road, Green Line to LAX exterior, shuttle into LAX. I don't know if the times will line up for you though. I do believe any Metrolink ticket will grant you LA Metro access for that day, but you should verify that

i think you'll be fine since the freeway closure begins at the 10 which is at least 5 miles north LAX. you'd be in a much worse place if you were coming from the valley or ventura country. from corona, all you have to do is get to the 105 and you can cruise right in. my preference from that corona to LAX is 91-605-105. if you have a smart phone check traffic once you're on the road because you have plenty of options.

That is a good idea. I am wondering though, I heard that because the shuttles have to stop to pick up folks along the way, it would take longer. How long did you have to give yourself time to get to LAX? With the rental cars and leaving early, we can be flexible in going to the bathroom or getting something to eat along the way.

Those shuttles aren't as cheap as you think they'd be. If there's two of you it will be the same or cheaper to rent the car and much less hassle and frustration. Pick the rental up the day before if you can so you can just focus on getting to LAX on travel day. I think people are getting a little carried away with this carmeggedon thing. I would only worry about it if I was driving in the 405 closure area.
