We are moving to the Palm Desert/Palm Springs area. We have an autistic child and were wondering if anyone knew which school district is better for special needs children, Desert Sands Unified or Palm Springs Unified.

We are open to moving to Palm Desert,Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage or Palm Springs.
Thanks you

I live in Palm Desert, so I can speak for this area, but not Palm Springs. You might want to call the Desert Sands Unified School District at (760) 863-3692 and find out what programs they have. I believe they have something that would suit your needs. Good luck!

I live in PD and work for DSUSD. I can't really tell you about the Palm Springs District (although I actually live in that district). I do know that if your child has special needs, the district in which you live is obliged to provide services and busing to a location that meets those needs as necessary. My site has a special needs preschool on site, for example. If that district can't provide it, then you should be able to get a transfer to another district that does.

Both districts have web sites where you can read about their services. DSUSD is DSUSDdotUS

Good luck.
